Location: Fully Remote (U.S.)
Travel: Up to 25% (Domestic and occasional international)
Contract: 12 months with potential for extension

$55-$60/hr based on benefit selection

 
About the Opportunity

Orion Group is seeking an experienced Project Manager III to support a large-scale digital manufacturing transformation initiative for a global pharmaceutical organization.

This role will lead execution efforts for a critical shop floor integration program that enables real-time manufacturing connectivity, automation, and data visibility across multiple manufacturing sites.

This is an exciting opportunity for a project professional with experience managing industrial automation or manufacturing technology initiatives who enjoys collaborating across global teams, driving execution, and solving complex operational challenges.

While this position is fully remote, candidates should be located within the United States and be available to travel approximately 25%, including occasional visits to the Chicago area for internal meetings.

What You'll Do

• Lead project planning and execution for digital manufacturing initiatives across multiple manufacturing sites.
• Develop detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, and resource requirements.
• Partner with site project teams to customize implementation plans based on local operational needs.
• Coordinate project activities across cross-functional and global stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress, track action items, and ensure deliverables remain on schedule.
• Prepare and communicate weekly project status updates, including milestones, risks, issues, and key performance metrics.
• Manage project scope, evaluate change requests, and assess impacts on timelines and deliverables.
• Identify, escalate, and help resolve project risks and technical challenges.
• Coordinate support from global functional teams and ensure project resources are aligned.
• Gather business and technical requirements through stakeholder meetings, workshops, and collaborative sessions.
• Develop and maintain project documentation, implementation standards, and best practices to support consistent execution across multiple sites.
• Drive change management activities to support successful adoption of new manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
• 5–7+ years of project management or project engineering experience.
• Experience leading manufacturing, industrial automation, or digital transformation projects.
• Strong project planning, scheduling, risk management, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience working with cross-functional and global teams.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Willingness to travel up to 25%.

Preferred

• Experience within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or highly regulated manufacturing industry.
• Knowledge of industrial automation, manufacturing systems, or shop floor integration.
• Experience supporting SCADA, MES, or manufacturing execution projects.
• Familiarity with Ignition (Inductive Automation), manufacturing connectivity, or digital factory initiatives.
• Experience with change management during enterprise technology implementations.
