Job description

Our Client, a global manufacturing business currently have a vacancy for a Production Supervisor to join their operations based in Fort William on a permanent basis.

Reporting directly to the Raw Materials and Technical Manager, the post holder will be responsible for the safe working practices within the department and the performance of the teams consisting of Team Leaders and Operators.

The person will be a key driver in raising departmental standards from housekeeping to HSEQ and work standards.

Main responsibilities:

  • Ensure the production area complies with site safety rules and that the company HSE objectives are implemented

  • Drive production to ensure targets are met and strive for efficiencies through continuous improvement

  • Maintain and create departmental procedures and carry out Risk Assessments

  • Manage and co-ordinate the delivery of raw materials to site, manage silo levels, maintain stock spreadsheets and organise logistics

  • Monitor quality of raw materials

  • Manage train plans and deliveries by rail with external contractor and offsite port

  • Maintain and improve departmental Key Performance Indicators (KPI's)

  • Lead by example in all aspects of HSE standards & leadership & challenge any sub-standards that may be presented

  • Maintain the skills matrix of the team and develop where required to support the safe production

  • Ensure engagement and commitment through effective communications

  • Facilitate problem solving activity to establish the root cause of issues that may arise and implement countermeasures to managing contingencies to minimise the impact on production

  • Incident investigation carried out to a high standard, including root cause analysis and identify & implement corrective and preventative actions in a timely manner

  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement, seek ways to be more efficient and drive change

  • Drive maintenance & equipment reliability within the department

  • Work closely with Maintenance to ensure operational requirements are communicated and completed

  • Manage contractors to ensure work procedures and standards are maintained

Qualification/ Experience:

  • Degree qualified or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrable leadership skills, past experience in leading a team

  • HSE accreditation, i.e. IOSH Managing Safely

  • Good IT knowledge including Excel other Microsoft packages

  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing techniques

Hours of work:

Monday to Friday, however some weekend work may be required from time to time.
