POSITION DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Preservation Engineer

KEY ROLE
This role is for the Shah Deniz Compression (SDC) project which will build a new Normally Uninhabited Installation (NUI) to be installed in the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan. The role will be based in the selected engineering contractor office and selected fabrication facility in Baku (Azerbaijan) and offshore for the greenfield and brownfield hook up and commissioning.
 
The SDC Preservation Engineer will support the SDC Commissioning Manager with safe and efficient delivery of preservation and cleanliness from Supplier Works through fabrication, Installation, Commissioning and final Handover to Operations teams for the SDC project. The Preservation Engineer will be expected to set the highest standards in HSE and quality and promote and role model the bp approach of “Who We Are”.   In the SDC project this will be a set up and oversight role and the SDC Preservation Engineer will effectively manage the contractor to deliver preservation.

BASIC SKILLS

• A high-level of communication and interpersonal skills.
• Preservation experience base is essential.

TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Higher education and an extensive Preservation experience base is essential.

EXPERIENCE

• Significant experience on piping, mechanical, electrical, instruments and telecom systems preservation.
• Experience of effectively interfacing and working together with Design / Construction and Commissioning Contractors and Operations entities.
• Experience with HSSE issues related to on-site activities.
• Deep understanding of bp Construction & Commissioning Defined Practices for both Greenfield and Brownfield projects and the latest international standards that assure integrity of build and construction quality.
• Experience with diverse work forces would be highly desirable.

RESPONSIBILITIES & OBJECTIVES

• Demonstrate personal HSSE leadership and excellent HSE behaviours at all times and ensure that safety expectations are communicated and maintained.
• Responsible for ensuring instructions regarding Project Preservation are relayed from the Specification and executed safely as per contract quality and warranty requirements.
• Coordinate and follow up with Procurement, Warehouse, Project Team, Trades, Client and Vendor for the Preservation activities, requirements related documentation and records
• Define systemization and develop a preservation database in coordination with Commissioning and Completions Engineers.
• Work in coordination with procurement and Client to arrange preservation requirements for different materials, equipment and packages.
• Prepare database for the entire tags and materials for which preservation is applicable and manage the database in the project completion software (PIMS).
• Identify preservation check lists for each type of materials, equipment and packages and assign check sheets in the PIMS software to each tagged item as per project requirements
• Prepare preservation frequencies and schedule for the complete preservation activities
• Identify materials required for preservation and support Purchase Orders to ensure timely availability.
• Issue and update the preservation check sheets in the system generate reports and send to concerned parties.
• Inspect and verify preservation activities carried out and arrange client to witness critical preservations as per agreed Preservation Checksheets.
• Performance manage the Commissioning Contractor in delivery of preservation.
• Carry out surveillance inspections and make sure preservation is maintained and adequate.
• Complete preservation activities related documents and update in the PIMS software.
• Coordinate and manage warranty activities.
• Develop and implement a comprehensive preservation strategies and detailed plans.
• Defines and communicates the philosophy, strategy and tactics required to ensure effective Implementation of the preservation process.
• Support QA/QC team (project) on preservation process pre-mechanical completion. Supervise the Contractor for the implementation of preservation.
• Provide assurance and an appropriate level of verification for the preservation activities.
• Prepares and maintains a preservation dossier
• Provide advice, coaching and training to Azerbaijani National personnel.
