PLC Specialist / Lead Package Interface – LNG Project

We are currently seeking an experienced PLC Specialist / Lead Package Interface to support the commissioning and start-up phase of a major LNG infrastructure project.
This is a key role within the commissioning team, responsible for ensuring the successful integration, testing, troubleshooting, and operational readiness of Package PLC systems and their interfaces with ICSS/DCS/SIS/FGS systems.
The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering safe, reliable, and efficient start-up operations while coordinating closely with EPC contractors, vendors, operations teams, and multidisciplinary commissioning teams.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning & Start-Up Preparation
  • Review PLC narratives, control logic, cause & effect diagrams, and operating philosophies
  • Verify PLC architectures, communication networks, I/O configurations, and DCS/SCADA interfaces
  • Support development and validation of commissioning procedures and pre-commissioning checklists
  • Coordinate commissioning activities across Mechanical, Electrical, and Instrumentation disciplines
  • Prepare and review PLC–ICSS interface definitions for LNG process facilities
  • Define and validate FAT, SAT, SIT, and OTP acceptance criteria
  • Support ESD and Fire & Gas testing program preparation
  • Ensure proper management of engineering changes and interface activities
Commissioning & Execution
  • Lead PLC package activities during commissioning and start-up execution
  • Ensure PLC packages are ready for energization, testing, and operational start-up
  • Supervise contractor commissioning activities and ensure compliance with project requirements
  • Manage PLC/ICSS interface testing and troubleshooting activities
  • Support start-up tuning and issue resolution for stable plant operations
  • Monitor SAT and Site Integration Tests
  • Coordinate vendor mobilization and support activities
  • Validate punch list closure related to PLC packages
  • Ensure proper reporting and documentation throughout OTP execution
Operational Readiness & Handover
  • Verify start-up readiness including:
    • Alarm management
    • Communication stability
    • PLC backups
    • As-built software validation
    • Removal/control of bypasses
  • Provide real-time troubleshooting support during critical start-up phases
  • Support commissioning dossier approval and handover certification
  • Ensure “as commissioned” documentation is updated and transferred correctly
  • Support operations and maintenance teams through training and mentoring activities
  • Ensure PLC assets are properly registered within CMMS systems
HSE & Compliance
  • Promote and maintain the highest HSE standards
  • Ensure compliance with cyber security requirements
  • Participate actively in SIL-related commissioning activities
  • Ensure all activities comply with international standards and local regulations
Candidate Requirements
  • Master’s Degree in Automation, Control Systems, or related Engineering discipline
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience within Oil & Gas, including LNG facilities
  • Strong commissioning and start-up experience on large onshore projects
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in a Package Coordinator or similar leadership role
  • Proven expertise with major PLC vendors such as:
    • Emerson
    • Schneider
    • Siemens
    • ABB
    • Honeywell
    • Rockwell
    • Foxboro
  • Strong experience with:
    • ICSS / DCS / SIS integration
    • Industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Modbus, Ethernet/IP)
    • ESD and F&G systems
    • LNG process operations
    • Commissioning execution and troubleshooting
