My client manufactures, supplies and manages bespoke metal products for the Oil & Gas industry. They are looking for an Operations Manager based in Dearne Valley, South Yorkshire. The succesful incumbent will report into the Regional MD. This is a critical role in delivering a successful operation and you will have P+L responsibility for the site.

The operations manager will be responsible for leading a team of up to 50, with 6 direct reports. You will be focussed on achieveing key departmental targets for the business and provide leadership and direction for the site.

The operations manager will need to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment, while delivering all key performance indicators. The operation manager will need to co-ordinate their team to deliver operational excellence for safety, quality and efficiency on a daily basis, whilst staying focused on the needs of their customers. The operations manager will need to drive continuous improvement activities and long term plans to deliver measurable change within the operation.

The operations manager will be required to work with the business development team to ensure the successful implantation of new client business. They will also have direct interaction with clients to develop relationships, understand the client's needs and continuously improve the customer experience.

You will need the following;

  • 5+ years' experience in managing/leading teams and working in fast moving environments.
  • Ability to effectively and purposefully analyse data.
  • Delivering and leading process and people change.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work in team environment.
  • Experience in managing large teams.
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems.
  • Experience of using Lean Principles to drive change.

  1. Deliver and lead a culture of safety within the operation, through team-mate engagement, pro-active identification of issues and understanding of incident root cause through accident investigation.
  2. Manage the site of approximate 50 employees on site.
  3. Lead the continuous improvement program for the shift, focused on safety, quality and productivity. Use Lean principles to guide improvements.
  4. Engage in root cause analysis activities to eliminate problems from the operation.
  5. Develop and maintain resourcing plans to ensure your shift has sufficient resources to meet the daily operational demands. Co-ordinate the shift managers so resources are balanced efficiently across the shifts. Ensure that the right resources and right equipment are available at the right time.
  6. Engage directly with change manager and the business development teams to deliver successful client implementations.
  7. Work with key account managers to engage with clients and resolve any potential issues.
  8. Develop long term plans to improve operational performance.
  9. Lead teammate engagement activities
  10. Take ownership to problem solve issues for clients and work collaboratively with other functions to find solutions for the clients and patients.
  11. Carry out management responsibilities in accordance with the organisation's policies and procedures
  12. Become a subject matter expert in your area and share knowledge to develop others to become subject matter experts.
  13. Create personal development plans for managers.
  14. Set out key requirements and expectations for the shift managers on a daily basis.
  15. Monitor operational performance to ensure daily operational targets are met.
  16. Co-ordinate the shift managers to deliver the site's successful achievement of Key Performance Indicators
