Orion Group is recruiting an Operative Buyer on behalf of a manufacturer of mobile crushing and screening equipment.
This opportunity would suit someone with purchasing experience in a manufacturing environment who enjoys managing suppliers, resolving supply challenges and working closely with production teams.
The role
You will use Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and scheduling to ensure materials and components arrive when needed. You’ll identify potential shortages, take action before they affect production, and secure value from suppliers while supporting inventory and working capital targets.

The role
You will use Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and scheduling to ensure materials and components arrive when needed. You’ll identify potential shortages, take action before they affect production, and secure value from suppliers while supporting inventory and working capital targets.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Raising and managing purchase orders in line with production demand.
- Monitoring material availability, identifying supply risks and resolving shortages.
- Expediting deliveries to minimise disruption to production.
- Managing a portfolio of suppliers and monitoring performance against agreed KPIs.
- Working with suppliers to improve delivery, quality and commercial performance.
- Coordinating purchasing requirements for design changes, special components and one-off parts.
- Maintaining accurate procurement data and working closely with sourcing, finance and logistics teams.
- Supporting sourcing activities and procurement projects to reduce costs and improve value.
- Following company purchasing policies and environmental, health and safety procedures.
You will bring:
- Previous experience in a buyer role within a manufacturing environment.
- Practical experience using an MRP system.
- Experience monitoring supplier performance and addressing supply risks.
- Strong planning, organisation and time management skills.
- The ability to work to demanding deadlines and respond to changing priorities.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving and effective communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
- GCSE English and Maths at grade C or above, or equivalent.
