THE OPPORTUNITY – OPERATIONS SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
The Operations Support Technician is responsible for providing front-line operational support to ensure the safe, compliant, and efficient execution of production and maintenance activities on site. The role delivers critical field-based assurance through activities such as HIC development, gas testing, isolation verification, and integrity checks, ensuring that all work is conducted in line with Operating Integrity (OI) requirements and Safe Systems of Work (SSoW).
The position supports the effective day to day delivery of PtW readiness ensuring the O&M teams are supported in their execution and delivery of work. They also support the implementation of isolation control through the application and verification of Isolation Control Certificates (ICC) using a two-person verification process, enhancing both safety and operational efficiency. The role is also accountable for conducting on-site Operating Integrity activities, including Joint Integrity Management (JIM) inspections, leak/weeps identification, and Level/Containment (LO/LC) surveys, to proactively identify and mitigate risks to asset integrity.
In addition, the Operations Support Technician supports the development of robust ICC plans, contributes to non-routine operational activities, and provides operational flexibility, including cover for tanker operations when required.

Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation. Please note that there is no travel and accommodation allowance provided.
Shift: 9 day fortnight, 9 hours per day, 07:30 start time.

In role, you will be required to:
Safe Work Execution & Assurance
Conduct gas testing activities to ensure safe atmospheric conditions for work execution. Ensure isolations are verified and perform isolation integrity checks to confirm plant and equipment are safely controlled. Support safe execution of work in line with Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) and Operating Integrity (OI) requirements.
Isolation Control & ICC Management
Apply and verify Isolation Control Certificates (ICC) using a two-person verification process. Support development of robust ICC plans to enable safe and efficient work execution. Ensure isolation standards are met and maintained throughout the work lifecycle.
Operating Integrity (OI) Field Activities
Execute on-site OI activities including Joint Integrity Management (JIM) inspections. Identify and report leaks/weeps and support timely resolution. Conduct Level/Containment (LO/LC) surveys to maintain asset integrity.
Production & Operational Support
Support production operations through field-based monitoring and intervention. Assist with non-routine operational activities to ensure safe and efficient execution. Provide cover for tanker operations as required.
Planning & Preparation Support
Contribute to preparation of work scopes through field verification and input. Support coordination between operations and maintenance to enable execution readiness. Identify and communicate potential risks or constraints ahead of work execution this will include daily gas tests, HIC and RA developments.
Risk Management & Compliance
Ensure compliance with OI standards, procedures, and control measures. Identify hazards and intervene to prevent unsafe conditions or behaviours. Maintain high standards of operational discipline and safety compliance.
Cross-Functional Coordination
Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and CoW teams to support safe execution. Communicate effectively on plant conditions, risks, and work status. Support alignment of field activities with operational priorities.
Continuous Improvement & Discipline
Identify opportunities to improve work execution, safety, and efficiency. Promote best practice and adherence to procedures in field activities. Contribute to lessons learned and continuous improvement initiatives.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
- BTEC Ordinary Certificate or equivalent in an engineering discipline
- An Engineering Apprenticeship with associated experience & qualifications (ONC or equivalent minimum) will ideally underpin the successful candidate’s credentials.
- Desirable, qualified to degree level or similar.
- Demonstrable record in Health, Safety and Environment management, complying with legislation, with IOSH and other relevant competencies expected for the job role.
- Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process operations or maintenance.
- The inherent hazards of operating in this nature and the substances involved require the job holder to possess a thorough knowledge of procedures and the process systems to ensure the ongoing integrity of health, safety and environmental performance.
- Proven experience of and the ability to stimulate creativity, innovation and change culture, coach individuals and manage real change across a diverse workforce.
- The successful candidate will have practical experience and demonstrate a clear understanding of terminal process plant, specifically including the technologies used at the Barrow terminals
