Orion Group Life Sciences are currently recruiting an Occupational Health Nurse on behalf of our Multinational Biopharmaceutical Client based in Sligo on an initial 23-Month contract with potential to extend.

100% onsite position
 
Responsibilities:
  • To provide the resources necessary to ensure the effective provision of Occupational Health services on site.
  • Ensure that the programs and procedures are in place to ensure that occupational health services are delivered to employees at the facility in such a fashion as to assess, maintain and promote the health and wellbeing of employees at the facilities.
  • Responsible for the provision of occupational health services at the site.
  • Collaborate with EHS in the identification of employees to participate in medical surveillances.
  • Ensure employee medical surveillances are completed as per the site Occupational Health medical surveillance procedures and Irish and EU legislation.
  • Assess the results of the medical evaluations based on sound medical practice and an understanding of the work the employee performs.
  • Liaise with the Occupational Physician and external GP/ Occupational health clinics in the completion of pre-employment medicals.
  • Provide assessment and treatment of any workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Monitor employee absenteeism and complete absence reviews as required.
  • Coordinate return to work and rehabilitation of absent employees.
  • Develop calendar of employee wellbeing initiatives and deliver wellbeing initiatives which reflect the site demographics and employee health risk factors.
  • Routine administration of the occupational health department.
  • Liaise with EHS to ensure there are adequate levels of First Aiders trained to cover all work shifts.
  • Deliver manual handling training to employees
  • Prepare employees for international business travel as required.
  • Complete intoxicant screening as required.
  • Ensure employee medical records are maintained confidentially and stored in accordance with the requirements of the company Records Retention Schedule
  • Other duties as assigned.
 
Requirements:
  • Registered General Nurse on the active register with An Bord Altranais.
  • Higher Diploma or Masters qualification in Occupational Health;
  • or
  • At least 30 hours of continuing education in occupational health during the past two years; or
  • Two years of experience in an occupational health setting;
  • or
  • A documented plan approved by the site management to meet the training requirement as per Technical Standard T22.AV, within a two-year period of time
 
Technical Skills:
  • Proficient in the use of spirometer, audiometer and keystone vision screening.
  • FETAC Level 6 Manual Handling instructor.
  • Competent in the completion of venipuncture.
  • Chain of Custody and intoxicant screening.
  • Certified CPR and AED instructor.
 
Cognitive Skills:
  • Requires a high level of attention to detail, to ensure total compliance with Occupational Health procedures at all times.
  • Requires total commitment to quality and maintaining a high standard of work at all times.
  • Demonstrates the highest levels of integrity and a strong work ethic at all times.
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written are required for the execution of this role.
  • Strong interpersonal skills are required.

  • Fully accountable for the timely and accurate completion of employee medical surveillances.

  • Responsible for planning and delivery of employee wellbeing initiatives.
  • Required to stay up to date with any changes in health and safety legislation that affects the role.
  • Adheres to and follows all procedures policies and guidelines ensuring compliance with cGMP and HPRA/FDA regulations at all times.
  • Strict confidentiality is required for this role.
  • Responsible for taking ownership of own area during regulatory inspections corporate audits and external interaction with the HSA and other external bodies.

  • Team members will work cooperatively with their own and other departments and provide support and information as required.
  • Develops and maintains cooperative working relationships with division personnel.
  • May be required to support Cross functional teams and cost improvement projects.
 
Decision Making:

  • Expected to handle all day-to-day Occupational Health queries, however, if a significant employee issue occurs, the Occupational Health Nurse will confer with the Human Resources Manager while maintaining employee confidentiality.
  • Responsible for compliance with all Occupational Health Policies and Procedures.
 
Supervision Received:
  • Individual works independently and is supervised by the Human Resources Manager and the Occupational Physician.
 
Supervision Provided:
  • This position does not have any direct reports.
  • Proactively seek ideas for improvement and communicates and shares these ideas for improvement with staff and management.
 
EHS Responsibilities:
  • Comply with the EHS policy and procedures and demonstrate EHS best practices in all work activities;
  • Continually be conscious of your own safety and that of others, always complying with safety notices and barriers;
  • Report any EHS incidents and/or Near Misses (unsafe acts and conditions) immediately to your supervisor and always raise the event in EHS system.
  • Support a culture of EHS excellence by recognizing and submitting opportunities for EHS improvement on EHS system.
  • Attend all required EHS training and medical surveillance programs.
  • Wear PPE as required.
