Reports to: Moulding Manager
Responsibilities:
- To provide analytical support for moulded component batch release as and when required.
- To create and review Metrology reports as required in support of moulded component batch release and engineering study development.
- To maintain & troubleshoot measurement systems to ensure their continued optimum performance.
- Contentious improvement of metrology systems and processes for efficiency and customer satisfaction.
- To conduct statistical analysis on measurement results generated from the dimensional inspection of samples from moulding runs for new product introductions and replacement tools.
- Generation and maintenance of documentation required in support of new and existing metrology systems and processes.
- To develop and qualify measurement systems for new product introductions as per project timelines.
- Ensure safety standards are met, and safe working practices are adhered to.
- Implementation of all relevant policies relating to Personnel, Quality, Engineering & Safety.
- Identification and implementation of metrology and/or manufacturing related cost improvement projects and initiatives.
- Specification, evaluation and selection of new metrology equipment as and when required.
- Development of documentation for metrology equipment for compliance with plant systems for calibration and preventive maintenance.
- Generation of validation documentation for the Installation Qualification and Operational Qualification of new metrology equipment.
- Carrying out component drawing assessments in order to evaluate their suitability for dimensional inspection.
- Providing recommendations to design owners on how to make component drawings more suitable for dimensional
- Participation in cross functional design for excellence workshops.
- Liaise with Division Engineering & R&D as required.
- Design and development of prototype fixtures for evaluation through Gauge R&R
- Covey learnings from prototypes to fixture manufactures for incorporation into final design.
- Participation in fixture design reviews prior to manufacture.
- Introducing fixtures per project timelines and budgets
- Generation of the required supporting metrology documentation for equipment, fixtures and Gauge R&R
- Measurement routine development or the overseeing of measurement routine development by external contractors.
- Design and qualification of instrument generated measurement reports in compliance with corporate and site data integrity policies and procedures.
- Coordination of Gauge R&R activities including statistical analysis and report generation.
- Compliance with the Site Priority List.
- Present project status updates at various management levels
- Overseeing tooling development measurements.
- Data analysis including statistical analysis on metrology results.
- Troubleshooting and maintenance of metrology equipment, fixtures and measurement routines for quality and efficiency improvement.
- Interface with suppliers and plant customers.
- Ensure effective management of appropriate internal and external plant projects.
- Development and maintenance of metrology schedules and capacity plans.
- Preparation of capital expenditure requests for the plant.
- Ensure successful external, Division and Corporate audits.
- Issue management reports as requested and on time.
- Management of relevant budgets within target.
- Supervise external contractors.
- Negotiate cost / quality effective external contracts.
- Prepare appropriate CAPA plans and implement timelines.
Requirements:
- A minimum of an Ordinary Degree (Level 7) in Engineering or related discipline is required.
- +2 years’ experience as a Metrology Technician or similar in combination products or a highly regulated industry
- Required to undertake specific investigations, and equipment monitoring, with the view to improving manufacturing performance e.g. reducing equipment downtime and maximizing output and yield.
- It may be necessary to redesign elements of manufacturing equipment to adapt to process conditions in order to improve efficiency.
- May be required to support Cross functional teams and cost improvement projects.
- Considerable and continual care and attention needed to avoid substantial damage to equipment. Losses could be significant.
- Continual attention needed to ensure equipment volumes reach annual production plan.
- Failure on the incumbents part not to exercise due care could cause repeated small losses or occasional damage.
Decision Making/Impact
Expected to handle all day-to-day queries, if major problem can refer to Metrology Lead.
- Has set targets and goals to achieve which are reviewed on weekly/monthly basis.
- Incumbent receives only general instructions from management personnel as to manner to which duties should be performed.
- Incumbent is charged with responsibility for ensuring uninterrupted availability of manufacturing equipment.
Supervision Provided
- No direct reports.
- Influence & coordination of sub-teams for project initiatives as required.
