Orion Group Life Sciences have an exciting opportunity for a Medical Information Officer for our Multinational Pharmaceutical client based in the Buckinghamshire area on an initial 12-month contract.


Job Purpose

Supply medical information in response to internal and external customer enquiries. Provide support to medical and marketing as therapy area specialist.

Main Responsibilities of the role

  • Answer enquiries from health care professionals, members of the public and internal
    customers concerning the safe and effective use of all products marketed by the client in a timely manner
  • Record all external customer contacts in the Customer Records Management (CRM)
    database
  • Search relevant data sources, both internal and external, to identify and retrieve relevant data and information appropriate to answer medical information requests
  • Analyse clinical papers to identify appropriate data to answer the medical information
    enquiries
  • Prepare written summaries of clinical data for inclusion in pre-approved responses and in response to customer enquiries
  • Proactively update the Database Management System (DMS) with pre-approved responses that can be reused by others in the Medical Department to answer medical information enquiries
  • Contribute to the writing of Departmental SOPs in conjunction with other members of the Medical Information Team
  • Handle complex enquiries on products for which you are the designated product specialist in the department
  • Train Account Managers and relevant internal colleagues on the use of Medical Information and when required on product SmPCs
  • Proactively prepare and update pre-approved responses, providing monthly insights reports of enquiries to brand teams and providing other product specialist to Sales and Marketing Teams and Medical Affairs, as identified in conjunction with these teams e.g. review or
    promotional and non-promotional material in the copy approval process
  • Complete annual Drug Safety and HCC Awareness training
  • Report Adverse Events and complaints in a timely way to Drug Safety according to current Adverse Event Reporting guidelines/SOP and to maintain Regulatory compliance
  • Acts in accordance with HCC requirements if interacting with Healthcare Professionals
  • If commissioning contractors or third-party organisations, put contracts in place and
    provide training so that these individuals also act in accordance with HCC requirements when interacting with Healthcare Professionals and report adverse
    events and complaints
  • Complies with designated SOP's for the role
  • Conduct formal performance and career conversations with all direct reports according to the framework set
  • Ensure safety reporting requirements (timely AE/PQC reporting) as set out in company policies and SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) are met and appropriately managed when planning projects, developing materials, executing projects and contracting vendors
  • Ensure HCC and legal requirements (Fair Market Value, Transfer of Value rules, Promotional Materials rules) are fully understood, appropriately managed and complied with when planning projects, developing materials, executing projects and contracting vendors
  • A key component of this role is handling enquiries from external customers. As such a Medical Information Officer will have daily telephone contact with external customers including Healthcare Professionals, patients, carers and competitor companies
  • To answer certain technical enquiries a Medical Information Officer is required to contact colleagues in other Departments including Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Drug Safety, Outcomes Research, Customer Services, Marketing and Sales

Desired Experience and Background of the successful candidate

  • Degree in a bioscience, pharmacy or medicine
  • Registration with official governing bodies e.g. General Medical Council, Royal Society of Pharmacists
  • PIPA membership (desirable)
  • Previous medical information or drug safety experience required
