Mechanical Utilities Engineer

Orion Group Life Sciences are currently recruiting a Mechanical Utilities Engineer (Onsite) on behalf of our Multinational Biopharmaceutical client based in Sligo on an initial 12-month contract with huge potential to extend.

Responsibilities:
  • To manage the execution of projects within the group.
  • To carry out and implement equipment and process improvement initiatives.
  • To ensure the performance of day-to-day preventative and demand maintenance activity to maintain manufacturing and utility equipment.
  • Establish with the Site Engineering Services Manager the performance goals, schedules and timetables for activities.
  • Assist with the management and supporting of manufacturing / utility / facility project plans.
  • Coordinate maintenance of manufacturing & facility equipment to required maintenance schedules.
  • Preparation of capital expenditure requests for the facility, plant and equipment.
  • Develops monthly engineering metrics for operations, utilities, and facilities which includes owner ship of Site Maintenance Excellence Program to drive operational improvements including implementing cost savings.
  • Ensure successful agency, external, divisional and corporate audits as relates to engineering compliance systems.
  • Issue management reports as requested and on time.
  • Management of relevant budgets within target.
  • Cross train within department to ensure appropriate preventive maintenance schedules are achieved.
  • Ensure safety standards are met, and safe working practices adhered to
  • Implementation of equipment/process upgrades in an environment of continuous improvement.
  • Support the Engineering Team in ensuring that manufacturing equipment is maintained to meet the required legal, divisional and corporate standards.
  • Liaise with Global Engineering as required.
  • Ensure the effective management of appropriate internal and external plant projects.
  • Implementation of all relevant policies relating to Quality, Engineering & Safety.
  • Supervise external contractors which include development of performance metrics for third party service providers of site services.
  • Negotiate cost and drive quality & performance with external contractors.
  • Prepare appropriate CAPA plans and implement timelines.
 
 
Requirements:
Essential Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s Degree: Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, Biomedical, Electronics) or Relevant Discipline
 
Desired Requirements:
  • Experience in Chilled Water, boilers, Potable Water distribution, Compressed Air Generation, LPHW, Building Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Electricity, Building Safety Systems and Building regulations is desirable.
 
Technical/Business Knowledge -Job Skills/Experience Required:
  • 5+Years experience in Facility and Utility Engineering, preferably in a cGMP environment.
  • It may be necessary to re-design elements of manufacturing / utility / facility machinery to adapt to process conditions in order to improve efficiency with a demonstrated track record in managing budgets.
  • Experience in a Electricity, LPHW, Chilled Water and Potable Waer distribution, Compressed Air Generation, Building Management Systems, Environmental Management Systems, Building Safety Systems and Building regulations is desirable.
 
Cognitive Skills:
  • Required to undertake specific investigations, and equipment monitoring, with the view to improve manufacturing performance e.g. reducing plant downtime and maximizing Plant output and yield.
 
Influence/Leadership:
  • May be required to support cross functional teams and cost improvement projects.
  • Considerable and continual care and attention needed to avoid substantial damage to equipment. Losses could be significant.
  • Continual attention needed to ensure plant reaches its annual production and financial plans.
  • Failure on the incumbents part not to exercise due care could cause repeated small losses or occasional damage.
 
Supervision Received:
  • Has set targets and goals to achieve which are reviewed on weekly/monthly basis.
  • Incumbent receives only general instructions from management personnel as to manner to which duties should be performed.
  • Incumbent is charged with responsibility for ensuring uninterrupted availability of utility equipment.
 
Supervision Provided:
  • Has decision responsibility within the Site Engineering Services Team.
  • Will manage and supervise external contractors.
  • Have contacts with all levels of management within company.
  • Has external contacts with outside contractors/services engineers and commissioning engineers, safety inspectors etc.
  • Has high level of contacts with Global Engineering and Global EHS
 
EHS Responsibilities:
  • Comply with the EHS policy and procedures and demonstrate EHS best practices in all work activities.
  • Continually be conscious of your own safety and that of others, always complying with safety notices and barriers.
  • Report any EHS incidents and/or Near Misses (unsafe acts and conditions) immediately to your supervisor and always raise the event in EHS system.
  • Support a culture of EHS excellence by recognizing and submitting opportunities for EHS improvement on EHS system.
  • Attend all required EHS training and medical surveillance programs.
  • Wear PPE as required.
