Job Title: Mechanical Technician

Reports To: Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Supervisor

Job Purpose

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for supporting the safe, reliable, and efficient maintenance and operation of oil production and gas plant facilities across all sites.
The role ensures all maintenance activities are carried out to a high standard, within required timeframes, and in full compliance with safety and operational procedures.
While reporting directly to the Maintenance Manager, the position may also take direction from the Operations Manager or Operations Supervisor/Superintendent, depending on operational priorities.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities will be assigned by the Maintenance Manager/Supervisor and/or Operations Supervisor/Superintendent and will include, but are not limited to:
  • Planning, scheduling, executing, and recording routine maintenance activities
  • Identifying, scheduling, and completing non-routine maintenance and repair work
  • Performing routine servicing and maintenance of mechanical equipment, including pumps, valves, motors, and air compressors
  • Carrying out vendor-specified maintenance on gas compressors and gas turbines to minimise downtime
  • Supporting or undertaking vendor-led servicing activities
  • Performing removal and monitoring of pipeline corrosion systems
  • Maintaining all site services in a safe, operational, and compliant condition
  • Participating in a 24-hour call-out rota where required, or providing technical support outside normal working hours
  • Maintaining high standards of housekeeping to ensure a clean, safe, and hazard-free environment
  • Supporting colleagues and demonstrating a working knowledge of process, mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation systems
  • Carrying out equipment isolations to ensure safe conditions for maintenance work
  • Assisting with installation and commissioning of new plant and equipment
  • Working alongside specialist vendor engineers to ensure maintenance is completed efficiently and to required standards
  • Supervising contractors and ensuring compliance with permit systems and company procedures
  • Developing technical expertise through training and engagement with equipment suppliers to enhance maintenance quality and efficiency
Qualifications & Experience
  • 4–5 years’ maintenance experience on relevant mechanical equipment
  • Completed a mechanical apprenticeship or hold a minimum of NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent)
  • Mechanical ATEX and PUWER qualifications are advantageous
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to take ownership of both routine and non-routine maintenance tasks
  • Understanding of oil and gas industry operations

Additional Information
  • The role includes occasional weekend, evening, and bank holiday working
  • Participation in an on-call rota is required
  • Candidates must reside within one hour’s travel distance due to call-out requirements
  • The job holder may be required to undertake any reasonable duties requested by senior management
