LQ Telecom Engineer

Report to Jacket Engineering Coordinator, responsible for the design, specification, integration, and support of telecommunications systems within oil and gas facilities, ensuring reliable communication systems for safe and efficient operations across all project phases.

Design & Engineering

• Review and consent to the design of telecom systems including:
  
  • IP Telephony (IP PBX)
  • LAN/WAN data networks
  • Fiber optic communication systems
  • CCTV and security systems
  • Public Address & General Alarm (PAGA) systems
  • Radio communication systems (UHF/VHF/TETRA)
• Prepare telecom system specifications, datasheets, and network architecture diagrams
• Develop cable routing layouts, telecom equipment layouts, and interconnection diagrams
• Ensure telecom systems are integrated with other systems such as DCS, SCADA, ESD, and Fire & Gas

Project Execution & Procurement

• Review vendor technical documentation, telecom packages, and system configurations
• Participate in technical bid evaluations and vendor selection
• Ensure telecom systems comply with project requirements and specifications
• Interface with other engineering disciplines and vendors

Installation, Testing & Commissioning

• Supervise installation of telecom systems and equipment
• Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT)
• Perform system testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting
• Ensure systems are fully functional and meet operational requirements

Operations Support & Maintenance

• Provide technical support during operations for telecom systems
• Troubleshoot communication and network issues
• Maintain telecom documentation including network diagrams and configurations
• Ensure system reliability and performance optimization

Standards & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with applicable standards such as:
  
  • IEC
  • ITU
  • NFPA
  • API
  • NORSOK
• Ensure compliance with hazardous area classification requirements

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of telecom systems used in oil & gas facilities
• Experience with fiber optics, network systems, and communication protocols
• Familiarity with integrated control and safety systems
• Strong coordination and communication skills

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university
• Minimum ten (10) years of experience in the relevant discipline
• Excellent spoken and written English
