Our client is a is a growing, renewable and sustainable energy company based in Scotland. They are expanding their portfolio of projects and their team has grown significantly in recent years with valuable experience from across some of the UK's biggest infrastructure projects.

Job Purpose

As the Lead Consents Manager you will form part of their senior project team on a Major Offshore Wind Project leading all aspects of consenting (including optimisation of the project consents, discharge of consent conditions and construction monitoring and consent compliance) and acquisition of all land rights required for the construction and operation of the project.

This is role is a significant opportunity to influence and support delivery of the company's portfolio growth. They are looking to hire an experienced Lead Consents Manager with wide experience of leading teams and managing key stakeholders and regulators through the development cycle.

In addition, you will also be a senior member of the Commercial team which manages the project development across the portfolio and supports the acquisition of such projects and leads on new site bidding rounds offshore. A deep knowledge and understanding of the renewable energy consenting process and EIA requirements will be required, as will an innovative approach when understanding and resolving consenting issues

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all consenting and land acquisition activities for the Offshore Project during development and construction phases and provide environment and consenting input to the wider project team.
  • Provide leadership and mentoring of the environment and consents managers in the project.
  • Provide proactive management of key relevant internal and external stakeholder interests including regulators and consultees and work closely with the Stakeholder Manager / Communications Officer to support engagement with local communities.
  • Ensure the monitoring, reporting and mitigation of consenting risks across the portfolio
  • Provide advice and support to project development managers and asset managers for all projects in the portfolio.
  • Manage and conduct environmental and consenting due diligence for new acquisitions in the Portfolio.
  • Provide environmental, consenting and technical expertise for bids for acquisition of greenfield offshore sites.
  • Engage strategically in environment and consenting issues and policy affecting the project / the wider portfolio.
  • Provide presentation and reporting of strategic consent issues to the project teams / board.

Knowledge and Experience Required

  • Planning, legal, environmental or geographical degree with at least 7-10 years' experience in a relevant discipline. Current professional qualification e.g. IEMA.
  • Deep knowledge and experience of planning/consenting activities relevant to offshore wind farms
  • A sound understanding of the regulatory framework for renewables deployment
  • Experience of offshore and onshore wind consenting at a minimum
  • Ideally have established, positive relationships with key statutory consultees in Scotland / UK
