Instrumentation and Systems Commissioning Engineer – 12-Month Contract – Oil & Gas – North East England
My client, a leading provider of engineering and commissioning services to the oil and gas sector, is looking for a Instrumentation and Systems Commissioning Engineer for a 12+ month contract based in the North East of England. This role is likely to fall outside IR35 and offers involvement in high-profile onshore and offshore energy projects.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and perform commissioning activities for instrumentation and control systems including transmitters, analyzers, PLCs, DCS, ESD, and fire & gas systems.
  • Carry out loop checks, functional testing, calibration, and integration of complex instrumentation systems.
  • Review and verify commissioning documentation, ensure redlines are updated, and punch list items are closed out.
  • Interface with multi-disciplinary engineering teams, operations, and third-party vendors to ensure commissioning readiness.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during commissioning to ensure timely project delivery.
Key Requirements:
  • Extensive experience in commissioning of instrumentation and control systems in oil & gas, energy, or process industries.
  • In-depth understanding of control system architecture and commissioning methodology.
  • Hands-on experience with DCS/PLC systems from major vendors (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Emerson, Honeywell).
  • HNC/HND/Degree in Instrumentation, Control or Electrical Engineering.
  • CompEx certification and knowledge of functional safety (SIL) is highly desirable.
Location: North East England
Contract Length: 12 months +
Rate: Attractive, likely outside IR35
