HVAC Technician – Oil & Gas

We are currently seeking an experienced HVAC Technician to join an onshore Oil & Gas operation in Dubai. The successful candidate will be responsible for the skilled maintenance, repair, replacement and installation of a wide range of Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems across onshore operational assets.
This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced HVAC professional with a strong industrial background, particularly within the Oil & Gas sector and hazardous classified areas.

Requirements
Education & Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Formal HVAC training or apprenticeship leading to a recognised trade qualification/certificate in air-conditioning installation and maintenance.
Experience
  • Previous experience as an HVAC/Air Conditioning Technician or Electrician.
  • Strong experience in the installation, maintenance and repair of industrial HVAC and air-conditioning systems.
  • Extensive experience within the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Experience working in hazardous classified areas, including Class 1, Division 1 and Division 2 environments.
  • Experience working with industrial chillers, compressors, air dryers and associated HVAC control systems.
Technical Skills & Competencies
  • Strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills across complete HVAC systems.
  • Practical knowledge of refrigerant systems, pressure testing, leak detection, brazing and refrigerant charging.
  • Knowledge of HVAC electrical and control systems.
  • Practical knowledge of Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) used in air-conditioning systems.
  • Experience with Allen-Bradley ControlLogix systems would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Root Cause Analysis, Job Safety Analysis, Risk Assessment and Job Scoping.
  • Familiarity with electronic Permit to Work systems and Oracle-based maintenance systems.
  • Strong understanding of safe isolation procedures, hot-work requirements and PPE standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC system schematics and technical documentation.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
  • High level of motivation with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
  • Valid UAE driving licence or ability to obtain
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate the activities of company and contractor HVAC specialists, providing technical guidance, instruction and support.
  • Carry out installation, preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance and repair of industrial HVAC and air-conditioning systems.
  • Review work orders, determine appropriate work methods and identify required materials, tools, test equipment and spare parts.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complete air-conditioning systems, including refrigerant pressures, gas leaks, compressors, fans, belts, tubing, room/building air balance and associated components.
  • Perform brazing, reconnecting tubing, rebuilding systems, refrigerant charging and sealing of pressurised systems.
  • Carry out scheduled preventive maintenance, including filter cleaning, lubrication, pressure checks, refrigerant top-ups, belt adjustment and control circuit testing.
  • Repair and replace electrical components such as fuses, relays, contactors and associated controls.
  • Complete equipment records, maintenance orders and job documentation, clearly recording work undertaken and faults identified.
  • Install new air-conditioning systems and extensions in accordance with work orders and manufacturer specifications.
  • Fabricate and install ducting, inlet and outlet systems, thermostats, control systems and associated electrical wiring.
  • Overhaul and repair split and window-type air-conditioning units, including fans, bearings, seals, valves, belts, filters and refrigerant circuits.
  • Maintain and repair chillers, air dryers and compressors within production and utility areas.
  • Diagnose and repair HVAC control systems, including loading/unloading solenoids and pressure and temperature instrumentation.
  • Carry out routine electrical maintenance associated with HVAC systems.
  • Maintain accurate work logs and job requests and ensure adequate HVAC spare parts and consumable stock levels are maintained.
  • Perform hot work, including brazing, in accordance with applicable Level 1 hot-work procedures and safety requirements.
  • Prepare work permits, risk assessments and job documentation for corrective and planned preventative maintenance activities.
  • Prepare hot-work permit documentation for HVAC repair activities.
  • Review preventative maintenance procedures and HVAC system schematics and recommend improvements where required.
  • Carry out approved modification works in accordance with change approval documentation and work-pack instructions.
  • Identify and recommend HVAC/electrical modification requirements to relevant supervisory and operations teams.
  • Participate fully in site safety programmes and initiatives.
  • Undertake emergency response duties as required.
  • You will also liaise with HVAC equipment manufacturers, suppliers and specialist contractors as required.
