Orion Group is hiring an HR Specialist I – Data Management to support HR operations for our global pharmaceutical client in Lake County, IL.
This role supports Workday and SAP HR processes, including employee record management, data quality, reporting, and documentation.

The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, experience with HR systems, a continuous improvement mindset, and Spanish fluency.

Role Overview

The HR Specialist I (Data Management Specialist) supports core HR data processes within Workday and/or SAP, ensuring accurate employee lifecycle transactions, compliance with internal controls, and high-quality service delivery. This position partners closely with Business HR, Talent Acquisition, Total Rewards, Benefits, Finance, and HRConnect teams to maintain data integrity and drive operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and support HR processes within Workday and/or SAP, including employee lifecycle transactions, reporting, and documentation management
  • Maintain employee records and ensure data accuracy across HR systems
  • Administer data quality reports and resolve errors or discrepancies
  • Handle HR documentation and ensure proper record retention
  • Respond to internal stakeholder inquiries related to Workday processing and HR reporting
  • Maintain and update process documentation
  • Take ownership of compliance with defined HR processes and company policies
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders to improve service quality and operational efficiency
  • Identify continuous improvement opportunities and support process automation initiatives
  • Deliver system and process training to new team members
  • Collaborate closely with HRConnect teams to ensure consistent and high-quality service delivery
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required (strong preference for Human Resources or related field)
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in an HR environment
    • Recent graduates with an HR degree will be considered
  • Solid hands-on experience with HR systems — Workday and/or SAP required
  • Experience with case management and HR data processing
  • Bilingual Spanish (spoken and written) required
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask while maintaining accuracy
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests in a fast-paced environment
  • Customer-focused mindset with adaptability to changing priorities
  • Continuous improvement mindset
Preferred / Nice to Have
  • Experience supporting HR process improvement or automation initiatives
