HR Specialist II – Benefits Administration Project Support
Location: North Chicago, IL
Schedule: Hybrid (Onsite Tuesday–Thursday)
Contract Length: 12–24 months (initial 1-year contract to start)
Rate:$30-$34/HR based on benefit selection
Interview Process: One 30-minute Microsoft Teams interview with Hiring Manager
Orion Group is seeking a detail-oriented HR Specialist II to support a large-scale Benefits Administration implementation project while assisting with day-to-day HR operations for our pharmaceutical client in North Chicago.
This contractor will play a key role in supporting project activities and temporarily managing operational workload for team members dedicated to the implementation.
This role requires someone who is highly organized, comfortable managing multiple priorities, and experienced in HR benefits administration, ideally with experience in Workday and HR operations environments.

Key Responsibilities
Benefits Implementation Project Support
- Assist with activities related to the implementation of a new benefits administration system
- Support process documentation, workflow mapping, testing, and issue resolution
- Partner with HR, project stakeholders, and external vendors to ensure project deliverables are completed on schedule
- Track project updates and provide status updates to project leadership
- Help coordinate testing cycles, documentation updates, and process improvements
- Provide operational support by managing benefits-related employee cases and inquiries
- Assist with employee benefits administration, issue resolution, and documentation
- Maintain accurate HR records and ensure compliance with internal policies
- Support administrative tasks related to open enrollment and benefits processes
- Provide timely communication to employees and internal HR teams
Required Skills
- Experience supporting benefits administration or HR operations
- Experience working with Workday or similar HRIS platforms
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Ability to support project activities and documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially PowerPoint)
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting HR implementation projects
- Familiarity with benefits systems and open enrollment processes
- Experience working in fast-paced HR operations environments
Work Schedule
- Full-time
- Hybrid schedule (3 days onsite – Tuesday through Thursday)
- Flexible start and end times within standard business hours
