THE OPPORTUNITY – HEAD OF SUPPLY CHAIN AND PROCUREMENT
 
The role owner provides supply chain leadership across contracting, procurement, logistics, and inventory, driving cost optimisation, governance, and performance while ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient operations aligned with business strategy.
 
Location: Barrow-in-Furness
Duration: 2-year contract
Contract Type: PAYE
Day Rate: TBC - For your application to be progressed, please ensure you provide a PAYE day rate banding expectation.  Please note that there is no travel and accommodation allowance provided.

Spirit Energy currently have a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.  
 
 
AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be required to:
 
Supply Chain Strategy & Leadership
  • Provide functional leadership across all SCM activities (contracting, procurement, logistics, inventory)
  • Lead and deliver an integrated SCM strategy aligned with company objectives and control frameworks
  • Develop and maintain short- and long-term SCM plans supporting business priorities
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation by adopting best practices
 
Contract Management & Governance
  • Ensure robust contract governance, reporting, and controls across the portfolio
  • Ensure effective operation of governance structures
  • Assure due diligence on major contractors pre- and post-award
  • Oversee contract performance, reporting, and controls across spend, duration, and milestones
  • Manage disputes, claims, and contractual risks to protect business interests
 
Supplier & Risk Management
  • Manage risk, ensuring alignment with spend, duration, and key milestones
  • Ensure robust due diligence on contractors pre- and post-award
  • Maintain the supply chain risk register and manage supplier onboarding
  • Monitor supplier performance and intervene using KPI-driven insights
 
Performance, Audit & Compliance
  • Track SCM performance using KPIs and data-driven insights
  • Act as primary interface for audits, ensuring actions are closed and embedded
  • Maintain compliance with governance, regulatory, and internal frameworks
 
Stakeholder Engagement & Capability Building
  • Deliver training on SCM policies and processes to stakeholders
  • Act as a key interface across business functions to ensure alignment
  • Support consistent and effective stakeholder engagement across SCM activities
 
Any other associated duties as reasonably required
 
 
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
 
  • Strong legal and regulatory understanding of the upstream environment
  • Experience of successfully leading SCM teams and organisations in support of an onshore & offshore upstream business
  • Deep experience of contracting, procurement, contract management, logistics and inventory management in a comparable upstream business context
  • Seasoned negotiator with a track record in successfully leading the delivery of complex deals
  • Expertise in SCM governance and the application of risk-based controls
  • Ability to develop and adapt innovative SCM strategies and commercial solutions to best meet business needs
  • Degree qualified
  • Relevant professional qualification preferred (e.g. MCIPS, CILT or equivalent)
