Environmental Advisor – Upstream

Location: Afungi / Pemba, Mozambique
Rotation: 4 Weeks On / 4 Weeks Off
Contract Duration: Long-term assignment (project-based)
Industry: Oil & Gas / LNG Megaproject

We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Advisor – Upstream to join a major LNG development project in Mozambique. This is an opportunity to work on one of the largest energy projects in Africa, supporting environmental compliance, sustainability initiatives, and stakeholder commitments throughout the construction and execution phases of the project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, coordinate, and implement the Project Regulatory Compliance Plan and Environmental Management Plan (EMP).
  • Support the Upstream HSE Manager in environmental and regulatory activities across the project.
  • Ensure environmental requirements and commitments are fully integrated into project design and execution.
  • Coordinate the acquisition and maintenance of environmental permits, licences, and approvals.
  • Monitor compliance with national regulations, lender requirements, and project environmental commitments.
  • Review and approve Environmental & Regulatory plans developed by EPCI contractors, including:
    • Environmental Management Plans
    • Waste Management Plans
    • Spill Response Plans
    • Environmental Monitoring Programs
  • Oversee environmental monitoring activities for offshore and onshore construction works.
  • Manage environmental reporting and monitoring data for internal stakeholders, lenders, and regulatory authorities.
  • Conduct regular site visits and inspections to ensure environmental compliance and best practices.
  • Interface with project teams, contractors, authorities, and external stakeholders regarding environmental matters.
Candidate Profile
  • Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of environmental experience, preferably within large-scale construction, energy, mining, or Oil & Gas projects.
  • Strong understanding of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA), Environmental & Social Impact Assessments (ESHIA), and Environmental Management Plans.
  • Experience working on projects financed under IFC Performance Standards or other international lender requirements.
  • Knowledge of Mozambique environmental regulations would be advantageous.
  • Fluent English speaker with excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Portuguese language skills are desirable.
  • Strong capability to influence contractors and drive environmental performance.
  • Valid BOSIET and OGUK Medical certification.
