Engineering Lead (Piping & Layout)

Job Purpose: Responsible for leading piping and layout engineering activities for major FEED and EPC projects. The role ensures compliance with project requirements and specifications through effective collaboration and management of contractors and project stakeholders, supporting safe and timely project delivery.

Reporting & Relationships
  • Reports to: Head of Engineering – Piping & Layout
  • Direct reports: None
  • Internal: Regular interface with discipline leads and project management teams across multiple major projects.
  • External: Frequent coordination with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and project stakeholders.
Context & Challenges
  • Position based in Doha office or field operations site in Ras Laffan.
  • Active participation in project safety programs, providing visible leadership.
  • Oversight of contractor design work, ensuring compliance with company standards and requirements.
  • Management of contractor resources to ensure project milestones and deliverables are achieved.
  • Coordination of 3D model reviews (30%, 60%, 90%), ensuring timely resolution of design comments and quality issues.
Key Accountabilities
  1. Ensure contractors deliver complete piping and layout engineering deliverables during FEED and EPC phases.
  2. Oversee quality and compliance of all piping and layout design documents, specifications, and drawings.
  3. Monitor and manage contractor resources to meet project schedules.
  4. Lead and coordinate 3D model reviews and ensure effective resolution of issues.
  5. Track and monitor contractor progress, including SP3D model development, to ensure milestone completion.
  6. Provide technical support and multi-discipline coordination on piping and layout deliverables.
  7. Participate in workshops such as Plot Plan, Constructability, and 3D model reviews.
  8. Capture and implement lessons learned and integrate improvements from existing plant operations.
  9. Ensure timely issuance of documents listed in the Master Document Register.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience, including at least 4 years in the Oil & Gas industry.
  • Minimum 1 year in a supervisory/lead role or oversight of contractors/vendors.
  • Strong knowledge of international engineering standards, specifications, and design.
  • Subject Matter Expertise in Piping and Layout discipline.
  • Experience in LNG facilities and sour service gas projects.
  • Knowledge of 3D modeling software and piping material selection.
  • Experience in berth design and seabed dredging is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with brownfield engineering and execution.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
