Job Title: Electronic Engineering Technician
Location: Sunbury-on-Thames, Surrey, UK
Contract: 3-6 months

About the Role
This position is based within a Research & Development Centre specialising in the design of electronic products for commercial fire detection systems. The successful candidate will support engineering teams in the development of innovative solutions focused on safety, reliability, and performance.
The role will play a key part during a busy delivery period, supporting the build, programming, and testing of a high volume of devices for submission to external test facilities, alongside internal development and validation activities.

Key Responsibilities
• Carry out electronic, electrical, and mechanical hardware assembly
• Build and test prototype units, including analogue and digital electronic assemblies,under the guidance of Electronic Engineers
• Support the build, programming, and testing of a high volume of devices for submission to external test facilities
• Assemble racks and undertake mounting and wiring of devices for internal development and testing purposes
• Perform testing and calibration of devices used in production and by field support teams globally
• Maintain and manage laboratory equipment to ensure optimal operation
• Liaise with suppliers and external service providers as required
• Support occasional visits to external test facilities responsible for product certification and approval

Skills & Experience Required
• Practical hands-on skills including soldering, mechanical assembly, and use of laboratory equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, multimeters, hand and power tools)
• Understanding of electronic components such as resistors, capacitors, diodes, transistors, and operational amplifiers
• Ability to read and interpret circuit diagrams
• Experience with PCB assembly, including surface mount components
• Experience in system assembly, prototype wiring, testing, and fault finding (under supervision)
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
• Good communication skills, both written and verbal
• Motivated, adaptable, and willing to learn new techniques
• Basic computer literacy
• OND (or equivalent) in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or relevant practical experience

Location & Working Environment
The role is currently based at office and laboratory facilities in Sunbury-on-Thames. There are plans to relocate to a nearby site (approximately a 10-minute drive) later in the year, subject to final confirmation.
