The Company:
The company's diverse business entities provide drilling, engineering and project management, as well as operations and maintenance, procurement and enhanced oil recovery services.

Purpose:

Responsible for ensuring that all projects complies with policies and procedures relating to the project delivery function and that projects are delivered in line with Client's expectations in accordance with the Contract and that NBO's interests are protected from a commercial and contracts perspective.

There is a strong and prominent Project Delivery function, including a Group Director of Projects reporting directly to the COO.

The role of Project Delivery is to assure and drive project execution excellence by:

  • Ensuring clear identification and management of project risk in the contracting operations
  • Providing governance and driving the development and use of common policies, processes, systems and tools
  • Agreeing on detailed project execution philosophy for higher risk projects
  • Oversight and assurance of existing key projects
  • Supporting the development, training and mobilisation of personnel to enhance execution competencies

Responsibilities:

To deliver against this scope, the Director of Projects will:

  • Decide PD functional priorities aligned with global/market strategies & identify project capability gaps
  • Manage and ensure implementation of assurance standards, regularly review projects, and escalate and decide on interventions as appropriate
  • Decide, roll-out and continuously improve mandatory processes, procedures, systems, and tools
  • Ensure integrity and consistency of Project Performance Reporting
  • Provide support and interventions to projects in execution in accordance with the Project Assurance plan with focus on major projects within the local construction subsidiary company
  • Take the role of Project Director for key strategic projects
  • Take a lead role in preparing proposals for future work
  • Decide leadership teams for higher risk projects
  • Train and develop PD staff
  • Agree detailed project execution philosophy for higher risk projects
  • Decide PD metrics, KPIs, benchmarks, and analytics

Experience and Core competencies:

  • Minimum of 15 years' experience in a senior functional or project leadership role in an international contracting environment within Oil & Gas sector.
  • Project Director and technical background in the O&G sector, EPC or EPCM background is essential, industrial construction experience is desirable
  • Experience of working within the contracting environment in a senior management role with substantial experience of bids and proposals work.
  • Ability to fulfil all contractual requirements and ensure correct financial return for the project.
  • Ability to define the project organisation structure and responsibilities.
  • Thorough understanding of contemporary best practice in project management.
  • Ability to build and structure a high performing team
  • Ability to co-ordinate all contract negotiation activities.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety Responsibilities
  • Knowledge of quality system structure and ability to demonstrate its compliance
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with internal customers and external partners
  • Strong coaching, mentoring and influencing skills
  • Culturally sensitive and ethically unimpeachable
