Coating Inspector
Reports to: Deck Yard QC Superintendent
Location: Fabrication Yard / Offshore Site
About the Project
The role supports a major offshore gas development comprising two new gas fields, associated drilling platforms, transmission infrastructure to an existing treatment complex, and a new carbon‑capture facility. The project targets an output of up to 750 million cubic feet of gas per day, strengthening regional energy security and export capacity. It involves full project management support across planning, design reviews, procurement, QA/QC, and risk management.
Role Overview
The Coating Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting all surface preparation and coating application activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and client requirements. This role is essential in ensuring corrosion protection and asset longevity in a demanding oil & gas environment.

Role Overview
The Coating Inspector is responsible for monitoring and inspecting all surface preparation and coating application activities to ensure compliance with project specifications, applicable standards, and client requirements. This role is essential in ensuring corrosion protection and asset longevity in a demanding oil & gas environment.
Key Responsibilities Inspection & Quality Control
- Inspect surface preparation (blasting, grinding) and coating application including primers, DFT checks, and multi‑coat systems.
- Verify environmental conditions (humidity, temperature, dew point) during coating operations.
- Conduct inspections using DFT gauges, surface profile comparators, adhesion testers, and holiday detectors.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain inspection records, test reports, batch certifications, and traceability documents.
- Prepare daily reports, inspection checklists, and NCRs as required.
- Ensure applied coatings meet required DFT and comply with SSPC, NACE, ISO standards.
Compliance & Standards
- Ensure all work complies with approved ITPs, project specifications, and client requirements.
- Verify coating materials are approved, stored correctly, and within shelf‑life.
- Monitor blasting media cleanliness and grit profile compliance.
Coordination
- Coordinate with Construction, QA/QC, and HSE teams to align coating activities with schedule and safety requirements.
- Interface with third‑party inspectors and client representatives for witness and hold‑point inspections.
Safety & Environmental
- Ensure safe practices during blasting/painting (PPE, confined spaces, ventilation).
- Monitor handling and disposal of hazardous materials in line with environmental controls.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of coating systems (epoxy, polyurethane, zinc‑rich primers, fireproofing).
- Familiarity with NACE, SSPC, ISO 12944, ASTM, API RP 5L2.
- Proficient with coating inspection tools and calibration methods.
- Strong communication and reporting skills.
- Ideally a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.
- Relevant experience post‑graduation.
- Excellent spoken and written English with proven report‑writing ability.
