Our Oil & Gas Operator client is currently recruiting for the position of Data Engineer, based in their Central Aberdeen offices
 
  • 3/2 Hybrid
  • Onsite Car Parking
  • Candidates must be currently based in the Aberdeen area.
  • Experience is the upstream oil & gas industry is a definite advantage
 
We are not just looking for a technical developer; we are seeking a "Swiss Army Knife" of Data & Apps who can bridge the gap between complex engineering and business needs.
 
As the ideal candidate you will be experienced as a:
 
  1. The Power Platform Specialist
The core of your toolkit must be the Microsoft Power Platform. Not just to "know" the tools but you will have used them to solve real-world problems.
 
  • I am looking for:  A track record of building custom Power Apps for data entry, automating workflows with Power Automate, and creating high-level dashboards in Power BI. You should understand how these tools talk to each other.
  •  
  1. The Hybrid "BA / SME / PM" Mindset
You would need to be comfortable "speaking business" to stakeholders and then translating those conversations into technical architecture.
  • I am looking for: someone who can gather requirements without hand-holding, manage their own delivery timelines, and explain why a certain data model works to a non-technical manager.
  •  
  1. Modern Data Engineering (Microsoft Fabric)
The client is likely to be building a modern stack. You need to move beyond simple spreadsheets and into Enterprise Data Engineering.
 
  • What I am looking for:  Experience with Microsoft Fabric (or similar environments like Synapse/ADF). You should understand data modelling, "clean" data architecture, and how to handle the massive, complex datasets typical of the Oil & Gas industry.
 
 
 
Responsibilities:
 
  • Partner directly with business teams to interpret functional and technical requirements.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data solutions using the Microsoft Power Platform.
  • Build analytics solutions using modern data engineering technologies e.g. Microsoft Fabric.
  • Deliver high quality, well governed data products in a fast paced, changing environment.
  • Collaborate effectively within a multi disciplinary delivery team.
 
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Proven experience with the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power BI Dataflows.
  • Some experience with modern data engineering platforms, preferably Microsoft Fabric, but other platforms also relevant.
  • Solid understanding of data engineering principles such as data modelling, orchestration, and performance optimization.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team oriented mindset.
  • Experience working in, or delivering solutions for, an oil and gas environment.
