Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Data Analyst to join a leading organisation within the energy and infrastructure sector, based in London.
This role will provide continuity of EDP and Databricks-based B2B Operational Excellence analytics, mitigating single-point-of-failure risk and ensuring uninterrupted delivery of business-critical insights.
This is a 6 month contract, likely to be extended to 12 months.
Paid a Daily rate, based in central London. Hybrid work schedule (3 days per week in the office)
Core expertise required:
• Databricks Lakehouse: Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, DLT, MLflow (Associate certified)
• Big Data Engines: Apache Spark
• Databricks runtime optimization Programming:
• Python (expert)
• SQL (advanced)
• Cloud Platforms: AWS & Azure Data Visualisation:
• PowerBI (expert)
• Data Engineering: ETL/ELT pipelines, transformations, visualisation-ready datasets
The contractor will operate as a hands-on EDP consumer and Data Analyst within Operational Excellence
Build and maintain B2B OpEx data products hosted on the Enterprise Data Platform (EDP), ensuring business-critical datasets remain accurate, trusted, and available
Manage and evolve curated (Gold) datasets aligned to B2B sales, delivery, and commercial processes (e.g. lead-to-contract, renewals, capacity, deal capture)
Apply EDP data standards (naming, metadata, data quality expectations) so datasets remain compliant with Shell governance and re-usable across domains
Act as the interface between business users and EDP platform teams, translating operational questions into data requirements without introducing platform risk
What the contractor will be doing on Databricks
Build, maintain, and optimise Databricks SQL and notebook-based analytics supporting B2B OpEx dashboards and decision packs
Maintain and extend Databricks reference pipelines used for transforming raw → curated datasets, ensuring stability during business change
Implement and monitor data quality checks (e.g. transformations, column logic, expectations) to prevent regression in operational KPIs
Support business self-service analytics by preparing well-documented, business-friendly tables and views in Databricks SQL Warehouse
Troubleshoot data issues across ingestion, transformation, and reporting layers without dependency on central engineering teams
Day-to-day activities the contractor will cover
These are ongoing operational needs, not one-off tasks.
Keep existing B2B PowerBI dashboards and analytical pipelines running (including fixes, enhancements, and data changes)
Deliver incremental enhancements requested by OpEx and commercial stakeholders
Answer complex business questions using Databricks-backed analysis rather than manual Excel extracts
Ensure knowledge continuity on existing analytical logic (e.g. calculated columns, KPI definitions, process metrics)
Approval rationale
Risk mitigation: Without cover, there is a single-point-of-failure on critical B2B OpEx analytics and Databricks pipelines currently owned by OpEx
Continuity of decision support: B2B sales, delivery, and operational performance will rely on EDP-hosted datasets that must remain accurate and timely
Speed to value: A contractor with proven Databricks + EDP experience can operate immediately on existing assets (pipelines, dashboards)
Protects OpEx outcomes: Analytics directly support process optimisation, performance tracking, and leadership reporting
