Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Customs & Exports Controls Lead. This is a permanent position based in Aberdeen.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Lead a team of customs and export control coordinators, maintaining competency and capacity to support the Company’s activities
  • Maintain and assure the framework of compliance for customs and export controls
  • Identify and manage risk associated with customs and export controls compliance and ensure that all import and export activities comply with applicable laws and regulations; including the UKCS Border Operating Model
  • Oversight of freight forwarding and import and export classifications, license and authorisation requirements and compliance records
  • Audit and assessments of all company import and export activities
  • As authorised Export Control Officer apply for and govern adherence to conditions of all Export Licences. Manage access to SPIRE/LITE and have oversight of all applications and license management
  • Prepare and apply for customs authorisations and renewals for specific customs-related activities and follow up on any appeals (RTBH)
  • Budget and management of cost including customs duties, VAT and deferment
  • Provide training and guidance on HMRC Technical Guidelines, company processes and systems and promote a culture of compliance across the organisation
  • Liaison with HMRC Representatives and coordinate with Indirect Tax, any HMRC audits and inspection
  • Investigate and report any suspected non-compliance with customs and export controls legislations
  • Company representative for Freight Forwarding contracts, and risk and follow up of contractor performance
 
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience as an Export Control Officer and a thorough understanding of export controls and import/export legislation, licensing and authorisations, tariff classification and trade agreements
  • Compliance and assurance mindset, with structured and analytical thinking and adaptable to changing legislation
  • Team leader with a development mindset, effective communicator.
