Corrosion & Coating Engineer (Outside IR35)

Role Overview We are seeking an experienced Corrosion & Coating Engineer to support a major onshore oil and gas development project.
The position is based in Leatherhead and will focus on ensuring the integrity, compliance, and quality of all corrosion and coating-related activities within the engineering package.
The role requires strong technical expertise in corrosion mechanisms, coating systems, cathodic protection, insulation, and passive fire protection (PFP). You will liaise closely with engineering, QA/QC, and construction teams, as well as contractors and vendors, to ensure that all work is executed in line with contractual and technical requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and coordinate all corrosion, coating, and materials engineering activities for the EPC Contractor.
  • Review and validate design documentation, inspection and test plans, quality plans, and manufacturing records.
  • Ensure coating, insulation, and cathodic protection systems are designed, qualified, and implemented correctly.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, and testing at contractors’ and vendors’ facilities.
  • Provide expert support and guidance to the project team and ensure alignment with other engineering disciplines.
  • Respond to technical queries and manage non-conformities, ensuring timely resolution and corrective actions.
  • Monitor progress, report deviations, and support the achievement of schedule and quality objectives.
  • Promote and maintain a strong HSE culture and compliance with company safety requirements.
  • Participate in technical reviews such as HAZID and HAZOP.
  • Contribute to lessons learned and close-out documentation related to corrosion and coating activities.
Candidate Profile
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry.
    • At least 10 years in corrosion and coating engineering positions.
    • Strong understanding of CO₂/H₂S corrosion mechanisms and H₂S cracking.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Knowledge of relevant international standards (e.g. ISO, NACE, ASTM).
    • Corrosion modelling experience required (use of specialist software an advantage).
    • Familiarity with operator general specifications is desirable.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Strong communication, problem-solving, and coordination abilities.
    • Ability to work effectively in a multicultural team environment.
  • Languages: Fluency in English, knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.
