Role Purpose
We are seeking a senior Control System Specialist to join the Commissioning & Start-up team of a large onshore LNG facility.
In this critical role, you will be responsible for ensuring the completeness, consistency, and operational readiness of Instrumentation and Control Systems, including DCS, SIS, FGS, ICSS, and Package Control Systems, to support safe plant start-up and transition to operations.
Reporting directly to the Commissioning & Start-up Site Lead, this position requires strong technical authority, hands-on commissioning expertise, and the ability to work within a LEAN, multi-disciplinary organisation.

Role Purpose

Key Responsibilities Project Phase – Commissioning & Start-up Preparation
- Review detailed functional analyses for all plant and tank process functions
- Follow ICSS Contractor activities during Detailed Engineering, ensuring operational requirements are met
- Review Functional Analyses, PSD/ESD logic diagrams, and HMI design
- Ensure timely identification of temporary equipment requirements
- Define ESD/F&G testing programs with Production and PSV testing programs with Inspection
- Monitor commissioning activities for ICSS and control systems, including FATs when required
- Ensure engineering modifications are managed via Engineering Query processes
- Review and approve ICSS Black Start procedures
- Support management of internal and external commissioning interfaces
- Witness and monitor ICSS and Package Control System commissioning activities
- Verify correct communication between ICSS and package PLCs
- Monitor and follow ICSS SAT activities
- Support technicians and panel operators during loop checking and commissioning
- Validate punch list entries and clearance related to ICSS and Package Control Systems
- Coordinate vendor mobilisation and start-up planning
- Control and report OTP execution for ICSS and Package Control Systems
- Validate operational test results and PID tuning parameters
- Configure and validate trending and monitoring tools
- Validate commissioning of Tank Gauging Systems
- Report immediately any event impacting commissioning or start-up
- Review and co-sign commissioning dossiers, AOC, and hand-over certificates
- Ensure equipment preservation and maintenance during commissioning
- Ensure smooth handover and training to Operations teams
- Maintain ICSS and Package Control System master files reflecting “As-Commissioned” status
- Support development of ICSS and Package Control System training and competency assessments
- Mentor and coach technicians through structured on-the-job training
- Promote knowledge sharing and continuous improvement
- Demonstrate exemplary HSE behaviour and promote site HSE policies
- Ensure commissioning activities are executed under approved procedures and PTW
- Ensure compliance with Cyber Security requirements
- Act as a key contributor to SIL-related activities during commissioning
- Ensure compliance with local regulations and international standards
- Master’s degree in Control & Instrumentation Engineering (or equivalent)
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in the Oil & Gas industry
- Minimum 10 years’ experience as an ICSS / Control System Specialist
- Proven experience on large onshore LNG facilities
- Strong commissioning and operational readiness background
- Hands-on experience with major ICSS vendors (e.g. Emerson, Yokogawa, Siemens, ABB, Honeywell, Rockwell, Foxboro)
- Excellent communication, coordination, and mentoring skills
- Fluent English mandatory
