The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to provide specialist technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting and optimisation of industrial control, automation and safety systems across onshore gas processing facilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, availability, integrity and cybersecurity of control and safety systems, supporting plant modifications and upgrades, minimising operational downtime, and ensuring compliance with engineering, HSE, process safety and regulatory requirements.

The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Control Systems Engineer to provide specialist technical support, maintenance, troubleshooting and optimisation of industrial control, automation and safety systems across onshore gas processing facilities.
The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining the reliability, availability, integrity and cybersecurity of control and safety systems, supporting plant modifications and upgrades, minimising operational downtime, and ensuring compliance with engineering, HSE, process safety and regulatory requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide engineering and technical support for Honeywell Experion PKS, Honeywell Safety Manager, Process Control Networks (PCN), Operational Technology (OT) systems and associated automation infrastructure.
- Lead and execute instrumentation, control and automation projects, including system modifications, upgrades, lifecycle replacements and shutdown activities.
- Manage technical scope, schedules, costs, contractors and project deliverables.
- Improve the reliability, availability, integrity and security of process control, automation, safety, condition monitoring and OT systems through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting and optimisation.
- Develop and implement maintenance and asset integrity strategies for instrumentation and control systems, including management of Safety Critical Elements (SCEs).
- Act as an OT cybersecurity focal point, supporting cybersecurity assessments, vulnerability and patch management, disaster recovery planning and compliance activities.
- Coordinate Management of Change (MOC) and technical assurance activities, including HAZOP, SIL/LOPA studies, cybersecurity risk assessments, Software Modification Request (SMR) reviews and engineering governance.
- Support operations, maintenance, commissioning, start-up and shutdown activities, providing specialist troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
- Prepare technical studies, project scopes, business cases and engineering recommendations covering system upgrades, obsolescence management, reliability improvements and operational excellence.
- Support budgets, procurement activities, supply-chain interfaces and specialist support contracts.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation, drawings, specifications and technical records.
- Ensure compliance with HSE, process safety, operational integrity, engineering standards and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement, OEMs, contractors and specialist vendors.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or an equivalent technical discipline.
- Honeywell Experion PKS Engineering and Maintenance training.
- Honeywell Safety Manager Engineering training.
- ISA/IEC 62443 Cybersecurity certification.
- Functional Safety awareness/training covering IEC 61508 / IEC 61511.
- Cybersecurity for Industrial Control Systems (ICS/OT) training.
- Extensive work in instrumentation, control systems, automation engineering and operations support within the Oil & Gas industry.
- Proven experience supporting Honeywell Experion PKS and Honeywell Safety Manager platforms.
- Experience delivering facility modifications, automation upgrades and brownfield projects from design through implementation, commissioning and handover.
- Strong knowledge of OT networks, industrial cybersecurity and control system architecture.
- Experience managing project costs, schedules, technical scopes and contractor activities.
- Strong working knowledge of:
- Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
- Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS)
- Emergency Shutdown (ESD) systems
- Fire & Gas systems
- Condition monitoring systems
- Turbine, compressor and pump control systems
- Vibration monitoring systems, including Bentley Nevada/Dynamix
- Gas compressor surge control systems
- Industrial communication protocols
- Experience conducting root cause investigations and delivering reliability improvement initiatives.
- Good knowledge of relevant Oil & Gas industry codes, standards and functional safety requirements.
- Experience working within brownfield operating environments and supporting shutdown/turnaround activities is highly desirable.
- Strong automation and control system hardware/software development and troubleshooting skills.
- Good written and spoken English.
- Comfortable working effectively within a multinational and multicultural team.
- Strong computer literacy, including Windows-based applications and CMMS systems; Oracle experience is preferred.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and root cause analysis capabilities.
- Ability to develop and present technical recommendations and business opportunities to senior and executive-level stakeholders.
- Strong communication, stakeholder management and contractor coordination skills.
- Safety-focused approach with a strong commitment to operational integrity and continuous improvement.
