A construction manager (CM) is responsible for scheduling, planning, coordination, and control of a construction project from its inception to the time it is completed. The CM is responsible for ensuring that all materials of construction and methods of construction conform to industry, and regulatory standards, specifications, and requirements. The CM is also responsible for ensuring that the construction project is concluded safely and successfully.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Overseeing, planning, scheduling, directing and coordinating the construction project activities conducted by the construction and contractor resources on the site for the duration of the project, as defined by the Project manager and agreed by the Regional Project & Construction Management Engineer and the Plant Manager
  • Responsibility for scheduling project in logical steps and estimating the time required to complete the project and meet deadlines
  • Reviewing project work scope weekly and in advance to support effective Permit To Work processing with the company approved permit issuer.
  • Plan, organize, and direct activities concerned with the construction and maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems.
  • Identifying the required Work Permits and Certificates during the task planning stage to complete the task
  • Determines labor requirements and dispatches workers to various construction sites.
  • Taking actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at a construction site, including tracking all exceptions on standardized construction project daily and weekly progress reports
  • Supports the PM in initial project creation. Assists is the development of initial design with regards to constructability and budgetary costs.
  • Supports the PM in the assessment of the appropriate standards as applied to a particular project.
  • Leading the project team to deliver the project in accordance with relevant standards and Group requirements
  • Setting and defining safety expectations for contractors to ensure they are aligned with CS-100 and site expectations
  • Completes required training and competency plan as assigned by Operator
  • Site Lead in managing and project construction resources to deliver project goals
  • Supports development and monitors project safety plan
  • Supports the regional construction safety committee with the other Central Engineering PMs
  • Ensures that the project scope is completed per the SOR/SOW, design plans, and associated contract change orders within a specified time
  • Validates that all construction materials conform to design per the engineering specification, company specifications, and industry/ regulatory requirements
  • Supplying a list to the PM of supplies and materials to complete construction projects
  • Inspecting and reviewing projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other regulations
  • Contributing to an L2TRA
  • Management and oversight of construction quality control programs
  • Investigate damage, accidents, or delays at construction sites, to ensure that proper procedures are being carried out
  • Evaluate construction methods and determine cost-effectiveness of plans
  • Quickly, develop a working knowledge of all company Lubricants Construction and Safety Standards
  • Manage multiple projects at once. Each in different stages
  • Work with Plant personnel to Integrate projects with Operations

Required Qualifications:

  • The applicant should have a minimum of 5 years actual field experience in project engineering, project management or construction management. 8 - 10 yrs is preferred
  • Bachelor or Associates degree in an engineering discipline or a degree/formal training in Construction Management or Project Management is preferred
  • Completion of OSHA 510 "OSHA Standards for Construction" course & OSHA 30 Construction Safety Card is required
  • Must possess computers skills including Outlook, PowerPoint, including advanced Excel capabilities
  • Has completed successful Industrial construction projects with values from $50k to $10m. Projects related to chemical operations or related industries are preferred
  • The willingness and ability to relocate to or commute on a daily basis to associated plant without company assistance
  • The willingness and ability to travel up to 5% of the time if needed
  • The willingness to work weekend/off-shift hours as required
