About the Role
Orion Group is seeking a Compensation Analyst to join our agrichemical client’s HR Operations team on a 6-month special project.
This role focuses on providing leadership, expertise, and hands-on support for Canadian payroll, pension, and benefits administration. You’ll help ensure timely, accurate, and compliant delivery of HR operations for approximately 350 active and 45 seasonal employees.

About the Role
Orion Group is seeking a Compensation Analyst to join our agrichemical client’s HR Operations team on a 6-month special project.
This role focuses on providing leadership, expertise, and hands-on support for Canadian payroll, pension, and benefits administration. You’ll help ensure timely, accurate, and compliant delivery of HR operations for approximately 350 active and 45 seasonal employees.
What You’ll Do
- Process and manage bi-weekly payroll for Canadian employees through Workday and Dayforce.
- Ensure all payroll entries, payments, and deductions are accurate and compliant with Federal and Provincial regulations.
- Reconcile payroll accounts monthly and year-end in SAP, collaborating with Finance.
- Manage government remittances, T4 statements, and reporting for payroll, benefits, and WCB.
- Act as the local subject matter expert for Canada payroll, benefits, and pension inquiries.
- Administer Flex Benefits and Defined Contribution/Defined Benefit pension plans for active and retired employees.
- Support pension audits and reconciliations with Finance, auditors, and Willis Towers Watson (WTW).
- Oversee updates to retiree information, vendor coordination, and off-cycle remittances.
- Identify and implement process improvements for payroll and benefits efficiency.
- 5+ years of experience in Canadian payroll, including pension and benefits administration.
- Strong knowledge of Workday, Dayforce, and SAP systems.
- Understanding of Federal/Provincial payroll legislation and pension plan compliance.
- Excellent attention to detail, accuracy, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage confidential information with discretion.
- US payroll experience an asset.
- National Payroll Institute (NPI) Certified Payroll Manager designation.
- Proficiency with Excel, audits, and intercompany reconciliations.
- Be a trusted subject matter expert supporting HR Operations across North America.
- Work remotely with a collaborative, high-performing HR and Finance team.
- Contribute to projects that impact payroll accuracy, employee experience, and compliance across Canada.
