Morecambe Net Zero (MNZ) is one of the UK’s most ambitious decarbonisation projects, transforming depleted gas fields in the East Irish Sea into a world‑class carbon storage hub. By safely capturing, transporting and permanently storing CO₂ from heavy industry, MNZ will play a vital role in helping the UK achieve its net zero targets while supporting thousands of skilled jobs across the country.
 
 
THE OPPORTUNITY – COMMERCIAL ADVISOR
 
Provides commercial subject matter expertise to enable the commercialisation of Spirit’s portfolio of energy transition opportunities, including the MNZ carbon storage project in collaboration with Peak Cluster, formation of an integrated CO2 shipping hub on Merseyside and/or at Port of Barrow, and the Barrow Energy Park development. Responsible for the negotiation, drafting, execution, and day-to-day management support of all commercial agreements in the business.

AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be required to:
 
  • Subject matter expert and lead negotiator for the agreement suite underpinning the Regulated Asset Business carbon transport and storage model including the T&S Regulatory Investment (TRI) Model, Government Support Package and Revenue Support Agreement.
  • Support participation in government funding and subsidy processes.
  • Responsible for setting the strategy, securing the mandate, and negotiating, commercial agreements with customers and value chain participants in alignment with Shareholder and Leadership Team expectations.
  • Support contract owners to ensure commercial relationships with customers and value chain participants remain in compliance with governing agreements
  • Responsible for financial securities planning and implementation.
  • Management of Barrow Gas Terminal/ Barrow Energy Park third party land requests including Section 35 strategy and defence when required.
  • Remain abreast of the evolving energy transition landscape, including policy, regulatory framework, and investor sentiment to be position DevCo’s projects for success.
  • Support day-to-day management of relationships with key project stakeholders including DESNZ, HMT, DBT, Ofgem and LCCC.
  • Provide CCS policy and regulation expert insights and supports consultation responses.
  • Manage the interface and contract with external legal counsel.
  • Manage the interface and contract with specialist commercial advisors.
  • Actively seek out value adding opportunities and present ideas for the consideration of the Leadership Team.

ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
 
  • A strong understanding of project economics, financial modelling, and scenario modelling (NPV, IRR, etc.).
  • Deep expertise in CCUS policy and business models, specifically the Regulated Asset Business carbon transport and storage model.
  • Subject matter expert in energy market structures and the regulatory regime for CCS and other new energies opportunities.
  • Familiar with a broad range of energy industry commercial structures including but not limited to Joint Operating Agreements, Joint Development Agreements, Study Agreements, Memorandums of Understanding, Confidentiality Agreements, Power Purchase Agreements, Transport and Offtake Agreements, subsidy frameworks and tariff structures.
  • Familiar with key business development processes.
  • Competent in MS Office Suite including Excel modelling capability.
  • Degree in engineering, energy, economics, or related discipline.
  • Postgraduate qualifications and/or professional accreditation (e.g., CEng, CFA, APM) are advantageous.
