Clinical Project Manager II – Clinical Supply Chain
North Chicago, IL (Onsite or Remote – U.S.)
Contract: 12 months (potential to extend)
Rate: $62-67/hour (based on benefit selection)

Orion Group is seeking a remote or onsite Clinical Project Manager II to support Clinical Supply Chain operations for our pharmaceutical client in North Chicago! This role is responsible for managing clinical supply activities at the protocol level across Phase I–IV clinical trials and Investigator Initiated Studies (IIS), ensuring investigational drug products and related materials are delivered to clinical sites globally in a timely and compliant manner.

This role works closely with clinical study teams, supply chain partners, quality teams, and external vendors to coordinate the planning, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, and distribution of clinical trial supplies.

This position can be on-site in North Chicago or fully remote within the continental United States.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead clinical supply chain project management activities at the protocol level for Phase I–IV clinical trials and Investigator Initiated Studies
  • Forecast, plan, schedule, and coordinate investigational drug supply distribution to clinical sites and depots globally
  • Collaborate with Clinical Study Teams to provide supply chain expertise during clinical protocol design and study planning
  • Translate clinical study design into clinical packaging strategies and supply chain plans
  • Author the study medication and labeling sections of clinical protocols
  • Develop protocol-specific labeling strategies compliant with global regulatory requirements
  • Create and manage project timelines, logistics plans, and key milestones for clinical supply activities
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors, manufacturing partners, QA, IVRS/IWRS providers, and packaging teams to ensure clinical supplies are produced and distributed on schedule
  • Develop protocol-specific manufacturing and packaging work orders to support clinical supply production
  • Perform scenario analysis, risk assessments, and contingency planning to mitigate supply risks
  • Forecast protocol-specific drug product needs including bulk drug product, comparator agents, ancillary supplies, and study commodities
 
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in:
    – Physical or Biological Sciences
    – Pharmacy
    – Engineering
    – Mathematics
  • 5+ years of clinical supply chain project management experience within the pharmaceutical industry
 
Key Skills & Competencies
  • Strong understanding of clinical development processes and global clinical supply chain operations
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance, SOPs, and GxP environments
  • Ability to coordinate complex supply chain activities across multiple stakeholders and vendors
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to manage multiple studies and competing priorities
  • Excellent cross-functional collaboration and communication skills
  • Experience working with Clinical Operations, QA, Analytical, Supply Chain, and external partners
 
Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting clinical trial supply chain planning and execution, including forecasting investigational product needs, coordinating packaging and labeling strategies, and managing supply logistics across global clinical studies.
This individual should be comfortable working in a highly regulated pharmaceutical environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure clinical trial supplies are delivered efficiently and compliantly.
