We are seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Lead to support the delivery of National Gas's Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD) project at Wormington Compressor Station in Gloucestershire.
The project involves the development of a new, low-emission 15MW gas turbine-driven compressor train on greenfield land adjacent to the existing compressor station. The scheme forms part of National Gas's wider requirements to ensure compliance with applicable emissions legislation ahead of the January 2030 MCPD deadline.
The Civil Engineering Lead will be responsible for providing technical leadership across the civil and structural engineering scope, supporting FEED development, design coordination, constructability reviews and EPC preparation ahead of the main construction phase.
Working closely with the client's project delivery team, Kent's engineering and design teams, and other multidisciplinary stakeholders, the successful candidate will ensure that civil and structural designs are technically robust, safe, cost-effective and suitable for construction.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Civil Engineering Lead with experience in EPC delivery, oil and gas infrastructure and major industrial projects to influence engineering decisions from early development through to construction and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Civil and Structural Engineering Leadership
The Wormington Compressor Station MCPD project is progressing through FEED and EPC preparation, with main construction currently projected to begin in 2027 and project completion expected by 2029.

- Coordinate with our client, Kent, National Gas, specialist design consultants and relevant equipment suppliers.
- Manage technical interfaces between the greenfield development and existing compressor station infrastructure where applicable.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, progress meetings and technical workshops.
- Identify and manage civil engineering risks, assumptions, dependencies and changes throughout the project lifecycle.
- Proven experience as a Civil Engineering Lead, Lead Civil Engineer, Principal Civil Engineer or Senior Civil Engineer on major industrial or infrastructure projects.
- Strong experience in EPC project delivery within the oil and gas, gas transmission, energy or process engineering sectors.
- Demonstrable experience supporting FEED, detailed engineering, design development and the transition into construction.
- Strong technical knowledge of civil and structural engineering for industrial facilities, including foundations, reinforced concrete, earthworks, drainage and structural steelwork.
- Experience coordinating multidisciplinary engineering teams and managing interfaces with mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation disciplines.
- Experience reviewing engineering deliverables, technical specifications, calculations, drawings and design submissions.
- Knowledge of relevant UK engineering standards, health and safety requirements, design risk management and quality assurance processes.
- Strong stakeholder management, technical leadership and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience on gas compressor stations, gas transmission facilities, gas processing plants or similar industrial installations.
- Experience with foundations for gas turbines, compressors, rotating equipment or other vibration-sensitive machinery.
- Previous involvement in National Gas, National Grid Gas Transmission or comparable UK energy infrastructure projects.
- Experience working within an EPC contractor, engineering consultancy or major energy infrastructure delivery organisation.
- Familiarity with geotechnical investigations, ground improvement, underground utilities and brownfield interface management.
- Experience supporting construction teams with technical queries, design changes and site engineering issues.
- Knowledge of applicable Eurocodes, British Standards and relevant UK civil engineering design requirements.
