Orion Group are recruiting a Category Buyer on behalf of our Multinational Pharmaceutical Client based in Liverpool on an initial 6 month contract.

Job Summary

The purpose of the role is to minimize costs at the appropriate quality (total acquisition cost), ensure continuity of supply for manufacturing operations and ensure all procurement spend is managed compliantly across assigned categories and spend.

Job Criteria

  • Price accountability is to be the procurement business partner with relevant departments across the business working on or leading key site initiatives that deliver hard savings to the business, as well as across assigned categories. To this extent, required to lead business partner reviews and attend regularly functional management meetings to present procurement updates and drive savings culture.
  • To support daily procurement process and procedures in the absence of operational buyers
  • High impact of role at site level with focus on meeting cost, quality and service improvements that support and corporate strategy objectives
  • Regular communication schedules with key functions to ensure alignment of sourcing projects, policies and processes with key strategies and objectives
  • Works functionally globally with peers as well as matrix at the Site level as required.
  • Providing commercial leadership of cross functional projects that have high financial impact in terms of savings generation
  • Ability to facilitate and influence decision making in business partnering meetings to ensure savings opportunities are delivered from initiation to implementation
  • Proficiency in steering contract negotiations to successful conclusions having ensured approvals in place in line with company delegation of authority
  • Experience of interaction with senior executives to sponsor change and unblock issues to achieve stated objectives
  • Able to develop and deliver a portfolio of savings and value adding projects that reduce the total acquisition cost of spend year on year by challenging continuously how money is spent and spend behaviours.
  • Constantly challenges ways of working to improve the procure to pay process.

  • Ability to develop relationships with key customers and suppliers.
  • Primary contact acting as business partners to all other functions.
  • Able to engage with senior leaders up to and including SLT
  • Broad knowledge of range of Categories with specific focus on key assigned categories.
  • Self - starter, resilient and results driven.
  • Excellent Word, Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Tenacious and works with integrity and can be relied on to achieve savings within deadlines agreed
  • Able to support other procurement areas as required.
  • Rigorous approach to data
  • Takes pride in own work ensuring a right first time approach
