The Brownfield (Senior) Project Engineer will be key to facilitating and ensuring delivery of approved work scopes that
are mainly to be executed externally with engineering and construction contractors. The Project Engineer will report to
the Head of Brownfield Projects, NL and will be responsible for the co-ordination of all managed scopes to ensure the
creation and delivery of value through leading and managing the external contractors in line with the requirements.
The Project Engineer’s objective is to support the Head of Brownfield Projects and Head of Engineering in the execution
and delivery of selected projects. Sound project management is essential and a clear demonstration of managing
contractors, suppliers and/or an internal project team on a major Brownfield project.

The Brownfield Project Engineer will work closely together with the project and engineering team, assets, production,
supply chain, and other key project stakeholders.

Main Duties & Responsibilities
  • To work in accordance with the company’s guidelines and project department management system.
  • Monitor performance of EPIC project engineer personnel and give guidance / support where necessary.
  • Ensure Brownfield contractor works are carried out in accordance with defined scope of work and project execution plans.
  • Responsible for contractor management of change monitoring and necessary approvals in line with contractua requirements.
  • Provide input to cost estimates and execution plans.
  • Responsible for the contractor delivery of all aspects of discipline design, specification and procurement of the project to cost,
  • schedule and quality criteria.
  • Work closely with the Head of Engineering to ensure alignment on delivery of contractor defined scopes.
  • Plan and maintain the discipline progress of the project.
  • Report periodically progress status to the line and function reporting lines on contractor performance.
  • Ensure all interfaces to other disciplines are clearly defined and correctly understood.
  • Close cooperation with other disciplines, departments, project personnel and contractors.
  • In conjunction with project planner, maintain detailed and accurate schedule, including identification of critical path activities,
  • and provide focus on critical activities within contractors’ schedule.
  • In conjunction with project cost engineer, contribute to cost reviews, spend forecasting and estimating.
  • Assist Head of Brownfield projects in maintaining good dialogue with external stakeholders and internal management.
  • Provide verification of progress & performance against plan, areas of potential overrun requiring corrective action and completion date
  • Produce input into internal weekly and monthly progress reporting
  • Critically analyse deviations and proposed variations to evaluate the impact on the time frame and resource requirements of the
  • project plan prior to raising with appropriate approval parties
  • Ensure project integration and visibility between operations and key stakeholders
Non-Technical:
  • Have a track record of involvement in projects at a similar phase of maturity, size and complexity.
  • Suitably experienced and qualified in a relevant discipline / management degree
  • The successful candidate should also possess familiarity with project execution practices of major oil companies.
  • Ability to lead, direct and support scope execution.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and work with other team members to meet project milestones
  • Good communicator with good interpersonal and team skills
  • Good time and task management.
  • Professional attitude, highly motivated, self-reliant and confident.

Required competences/Qualifications 
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the upstream oil & gas industry, ideally with experience with operator and contractor
  • Educated to degree level
  • Skilled in the practice of Project Management, with proven experience on major Brownfield modifications.
  • Proven experience in managing a major and complex Brownfield project scope.
  • Proven experience in managing a Brownfield contractors
  • Experienced with and knowledgeable of formal project management and information management systems,
  • including the principles and associated processes, practices, or tools.
  • Proactive, delivery focused, can operate in a high paced environment and is adaptable to working in a
  • transformative organisation
  • Good communication, networking, facilitation & presentation skills
  • Team player with ability to build strong working relationships between the various Project Teams, Company
  • Business Groups and 3rd party contractors
  • Highly competent interpersonal and influencing skills to tactfully and diplomatically manage ambiguity, conflict
  • and uncertainty in a culturally diverse environment
