Orion Group Life Sciences are currently recruiting a Bioinformatician on behalf of our Multinational Biopharmaceutical Client based in Dublin on an initial 6-Month contract with potential to go perm.

Overview
Our client is seeking a Bioinformatician to join an innovative DNA Research team focused on developing advanced nucleic acid-based solutions for animal identification, traceability and population analysis across the livestock and companion animal sectors.
This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of bioinformatics, genomics and laboratory science, supporting the development of cutting-edge genomic technologies while collaborating with multidisciplinary research and commercial teams.
The successful candidate will play a key role in developing computational methods for analysing large-scale genomic datasets, while also contributing to laboratory-based next generation sequencing (NGS) workflows.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop computational methods to process, analyse and interpret large genomic datasets generated from animal DNA samples.
  • Analyse data from Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and SNP microarray platforms.
  • Prepare, quality control and run sequencing libraries for NGS applications.
  • Design, implement and maintain robust bioinformatics pipelines and analytical workflows.
  • Collaborate with scientists and cross-functional stakeholders to design experiments, interpret findings and generate new research hypotheses.
  • Support the continuous development and optimisation of bioinformatics tools and analytical methods.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to colleagues across DNA operations in the use of bioinformatics tools and resources.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and ensure reproducibility of analytical workflows.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting and continuous improvement initiatives within both laboratory and computational environments.
 
Required Experience
  • Experience preparing sequencing libraries for Next Generation Sequencing (NGS).
  • Strong understanding of computational genomics and the analysis of large-scale DNA datasets.
  • Experience developing and maintaining bioinformatics pipelines and workflows.
  • Knowledge of genomic data processing, quality control and interpretation.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary research or scientific teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
 
Qualifications
  • Postgraduate degree (MSc or PhD preferred) in:
    • Molecular Biology
    • Genomics
    • Bioinformatics
    • Biochemistry
    • Or another related life sciences discipline
