Job Description:
The Bioanalytical Associate Scientist II, as part of Local Delivery Translational Sciences (LDTS) will develop and perform bioanalytical assays to quantify botulinum toxin proteins in biological fluids and tissues. In this role, the individual will collaborate with colleagues in Clinical Pharmacology, Pre-Clinical Safety, and other Research areas to address key project questions related to biodistribution and pharmacokinetics, biomarkers and translational drug development for botulinum toxin, and aesthetics therapeutic areas.

As a member of a small team, and under the mentorship of a supervisor, this individual will develop, optimize, qualify and execute quantitative non-regulated large molecule bioanalysis studies for in vitro and in vivo studies, document experiments, prepare formal reports, and present results to project teams. Following initial training, the associate scientist will independently plan and execute experiments, troubleshoot technical challenges, analyze complex data sets and communicate scientific findings.

Responsibilities include:

• Under the supervision of a mentor, generate and analyze data in alignment with project goals and short and long-term priorities
• Plan and execute quantitative ligand binding assays, including design, development, optimization, and troubleshooting.
• Work on experimental design, troubleshooting, assay optimization and data analysis as needed.
• Learn and effectively implement new experimental protocols and/or techniques.
• Prepare technical reports and present scientific findings during project meetings.
• Support a safe, organized, and operational laboratory environment, including coordination of equipment calibration, maintenance, procurement of supplies, etc.
• Maintain timely and accurate laboratory records consistent with Good Documentation Practices (GDP), including laboratory notebooks and electronic documentation (ELN).
• Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation while coordinating calibration and preventative maintenance.
• Perform experiments in a select agent laboratory while following all biosafety and regulatory requirements.

Education and experience:

• A bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Bioanalytical Sciences, Immunology, Molecular Biology, or a related field with 3+ years of relevant experience, or a Master’s degree with 0-2 years of relevant experience
• Knowledge of quantitative ligand binding assays (e.g. ELISAs).
• Strong analytical, organizational, troubleshooting, time management, and scientific problem solving skills
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment.
• Willingness and enthusiasm to learn and adapt to new techniques and technologies., along with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Experience:

• Hands-on laboratory experiences with basic immunology and biochemistry assays
• Experience with relevant technology such as Quanterix/ MSD/ ELISA/Octet, Biacore, assays.
• Experience with assay development, optimization, qualification and troubleshooting within a regulated industry environment
• Experience with laboratory automation platforms such as Integra Assist Plus, Hamilton, or Opentron.
• Experience with handling serum, tissue homogenates, cell lysates and purified proteins.
• Experience with performing data analysis and data visualization via software’s such as GraphPad Prism and R Studios
• Experience maintaining laboratory documentation in accordance with Good Documentation Practices.
