Our Oil & Gas Operator client is currently recruiting for the position of Assistant JV Accountant for a Maternity cover 12-month period, based in Aberdeen.
 
3/2 hybrid working
 
Starting July 2026 ideally.
 
Responsibilities:
  • Support month-end Joint Venture accounting processes, including preparation and posting of accruals, prepayments, finance fee entries, tariff accruals, cutback entries, reclassification journals and other period-end postings.
  • Prepare and maintain Joint Venture billing outputs, supporting analysis and partner reporting across assets including Bruce, Keith, Rhum, Columbus, Decommissioning and other relevant company interests.
  • Perform regular balance sheet reconciliations and control account reviews, ensuring reconciling items are clearly explained, followed up and resolved in line with finance timetables.
  • Support vendor payment runs, employee expense processing, creditor approvals and related disbursement controls, ensuring payments are accurate, timely and appropriately supported.
  • Assure the integrity of accounting records and system interfaces, including SUN, Maximo and related reporting outputs, investigating anomalies and correcting issues where required.
  • Extract, refresh and analyse financial information from accounting and reporting systems, including Q&A reports, actuals reporting, working capital analysis and cost allocation outputs.
  • Coordinate and maintain relevant master data, coding strings, system rates and accounting period controls to support accurate transaction processing and reporting.
  • Respond to Joint Venture partner queries and internal stakeholder requests, providing clear explanations and supporting analysis where required.
  • Support budget holders and Finance colleagues with analysis of actual spend, commitments, accruals and variances, helping improve understanding of monthly financial results.
  • Assist with statutory audit, partner audit and ad-hoc finance requests by preparing schedules, reconciliations and supporting evidence.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Finance Operations processes, including documentation, controls, reporting quality and system-based assurance checks.
  • Provide flexible support and cover across the wider Finance Operations team during peak reporting cycles and periods of change.
 
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Experience in a relevant finance, accounting or Joint Venture accounting role.
  • Good understanding of general ledger accounting, accruals, prepayments, payment processes and balance sheet control.
  • Strong systems capability, including experience of extracting and analysing financial information from accounting systems and reporting tools.
  • Strong Excel skills and ability to prepare accurate reconciliations, analysis and supporting schedules.
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly to Finance colleagues, budget holders and external stakeholders.
  • Strong attention to detail, analytical capability and willingness to investigate financial errors, anomalies and data quality issues through to resolution.
  • Ability to plan and manage workload within challenging monthly, quarterly and annual reporting timetables.
  • Team-focused, proactive and flexible, with the ability to work through peak cycles and respond positively to changing priorities.
  • Degree qualified or able to demonstrate equivalent relevant finance experience.
  • Working towards a professional accounting qualification such as ICAS, ICAEW, CIMA or ACCA.
  • Experience within the oil and gas industry, particularly Joint Venture accounting or cost recovery processes.
  • Working knowledge of SAP, SunSystems, Maximo, or similar ERP and finance reporting systems.
  • Experience with payment runs, employee expenses, partner billings, working capital reporting or audit support.
  • Interest in continuous improvement, automation, reporting enhancement and strengthening financial controls.
