Application Specialist - Subsurface & Wells

Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Application Specialist Subsurface & Wells based in Aberdeen. This role has been released on a 12 month PAYE contract.
 
Responsibilities:
 
Discovery & Use-Case Design
  • Run discovery with geoscience and wells stakeholders; map AS-IS / TO-BE workflows (modelling, interpretation, planning).
  • Capture requirements and acceptance criteria; maintain traceability; shape value-based backlogs and options (configuration vs process change).
  • Plan rollouts to project teams and assets, coordinating change impacts for field and office users.
 
Delivery & Enablement
  • Build/manage plans, RAID and release calendars; coordinate UAT, readiness, training and comms; run cutover/hypercare and track benefits.
  • Ensure Non-Functional Requirements are defined and evidenced for performance, availability and supportability.
 
Data Standards & Integrations
  • Oversee data standards and pipelines, e.g., Wellsite Information Transfer Standard Markup Language and Professional Petroleum Data Management.
  • Align integrations with Open Subsurface Data Universe/data-lake patterns and corporate platforms; maintain interface contracts and runbooks.
 
Offshore and subsurface Performance & End-User Experience
  • Capture and verify performance needs for VDI/Citrix and GPU workstations; coordinate packaging and client profiles.
  • Drive adoption and standardised usage patterns; maintain knowledge articles and training materials.
 
Vendor & AMS Governance
  • Manage third party software vendors and coordinate AMS delivery; manage SOWs/SLAs/KPIs/SIPs.
  • Ensure solutions are supportable and security/compliance standards are met; clean handover to BAU.
 
Service Operations (SME / L3 coordination)
  • Act as functional SME and L3 escalation: triage complex issues and direct AMS/ISVs to resolution (not hands-on break/fix).
  • Track service KPIs and continuous improvements; ensure audit evidence (SoD/JML/GDPR) is current.
 
Experience & Qualifications:
  • Relevant experience delivering change across subsurface/wells toolsets (e.g., Petrel, Techlog, Landmark OpenWorks, WellView/EDM).
  • Understanding of data standards (WITSML/PPDM) and performance environments (VDI/Citrix/GPU); strong PM/BA and vendor coordination skills.
  • Clear communication with technical users; disciplined documentation and ITIL v4/PMO governance experience.
