THE OPPORTUNITY – ACCOUNTANT
 
Responsible for preparing and supporting the delivery of all month-end, interim, and year-end financial close processes; assist in the preparation and delivery of statutory accounts, ensuring compliance with relevant standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP); complete SAP master data changes (e.g., WBS structures, hierarchies, profit and cost centres) and conduct UAT.

Spirit Energy currently have a non-contractual hybrid working arrangement for all office-based workers. 4 days must be worked in the office with compulsory days being Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The fourth day worked in-office (either Monday or Friday) is of the worker’s choosing but should be in keeping with what is most efficient and effective for their team. The office is open 5 days a week for full time, in-office working if this is the contractor’s preference.  
 
 
AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be required to:
 
Financial Close & Reporting Activities
  • Prepare comprehensive month-end reporting, including elements of revenue accounting as applicable.
  • Reconcile balance sheets, intergroup accounts, and legal entities to management reporting to ensure accuracy.
  • Investigate and resolve mismatches in financial data.
  • Book and review journal entries into the Finance System, ensuring proper approvals and documentation.
  • Manage the fixed asset ledger, performing month-end fixed asset activities such as depreciation (DDA) postings and net book value (NBV) integrity checks.
  • Conduct inventory and materials control activities to maintain accurate asset records.
  • Monitor debtors and creditors ledgers regularly to manage cash flow and credit risk.
 
Joint Venture (JV) Accounting and Controls
  • Responsible for JV accounting processes including cash calls, billing, accruals, coding, and allocations.
  • Oversee cut-back processes, ledger reviews, and the processing of Authorization for Expenditure (AFEs) to ensure JV accounting integrity.
 
Integrity Reviews & Reporting
  • Support and deliver month-end, mid-year, and year-end integrity reviews and close processes, including gross and net book entries and Group consolidation.
  • Support delivery of asset and budget holder reports for both internal management and external stakeholders.
  • Deliver business reporting requirements with clear communication of accounting risks and opportunities.
 
Audit & Controls Support
  • Support year-end, interim, and other financial audits by preparing necessary documentation and liaising with auditors.
  • Assist in the internal controls process, ensuring compliance and mitigating risks.
 
Corporate Accounting Support
Assist Corporate Accounting in the preparation and delivery of all Spirit Energy Statutory Accounts, ensuring compliance with IFRS, GAAP, and other relevant standards.
 
SAP Master Data & System Enhancements
  • Support and deliver SAP Master data changes such as Work Breakdown Structure (WBS), hierarchy, profit/cost centre changes.
  • Conduct User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to validate SAP system changes and ensure business readiness.
 
Additional Responsibilities
  • Provide input for weekly cash flow forecasts supporting Treasury operations.
  • Support impairment reviews and decommissioning processes during year-end and mid-year periods.
 
Any other associated duties as reasonably required.
 
 
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role, we are looking for:
 
  • Strong all-round financial and technical accounting skills & knowledge.
  • Strong Excel capability – experience of building/improving models.
  • Strong SAP ERP, BW & BPC knowledge.
  • Analytical skills to provide check and challenge to the business in their decision making in an effective and constructive manner.
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, CA, ACCA, CIMA);
  • Relevant University degree
