Giving back

Orion has been supporting projects and communities around the world for the past 34 years.

At the heart of our company is a family run business. Proving ourselves as one of the world’s leading manpower providers, respected by our clients and represented by some of the best people in the industry. Giving back to others and helping out in communities has been a key building block in Orion’s success over the last 3 decades and we are proud to continue this support as best we can.

In recent year’s Orion has supported and donated to many worthwhile projects and charities.

Just some of the organisations we have helped and worked with:

  • Highland Hospice
  • Maggies Highland
  • Marie Curie
  • MND Scotland – Research
  • Clachnacuddin FC Community
  • Children’s Schools, Papua New Guinea
  • Drummond School
  • RNLI
  • Philippines Disaster Relief
  • Aberdeen Children’s ward

It has been a privilege to spend time with charities who are doing some incredible work in the local community. During 2020 Orion Group has made the following donations:

Coppafeel fundraising trek

We’re thrilled to be supporting the courageous Fi Fi Donnison, who is walking 100km through the Scottish Highlands with Giovanna Fletcher as part of the Come Fly with Gi trek raising vital funds for Coppafeel. The charity helps everyone stand the best possible chance of surviving breast cancer by educating us on the importance of checking your chest. We loved the cause and Fi Fi’s inspirational attitude so much, we were delighted to donate £10,000.

Cauldeen Primary School Sensory Garden

One of our favourite projects this year was the Sensory Garden Project for Cauldeen Primary School. We donated £6,000 to realise this project which will be of huge benefit to severely disabled children. It was an absolute pleasure working with the teachers and children to make their idea become a reality.

All of these causes do incredible work in the community and are hugely deserving of any support they receive. It has been a privilege to have been able to get to know the people behind the scenes and contribute to the work important work they all do. We have drawn huge inspiration from working with these groups and look forward to doing more with them all in the future.

At Orion Group, we’re proud of our Highland roots. Even though we now have offices worldwide, we remain embedded within the local community that many of our team call home.
Although we may have grown to become one of the largest recruitment companies in the world, Orion remains an independently – and locally – owned company. Because of this, we are committed to working with the local community and charitable organisations. In the last five years alone, Orion has donated over £1.5m to our chosen charity partners, as well as helping out countless other causes.

This spirit of corporate social responsibility (CSR) is ingrained in everything we do, and wherever we operate around the globe, we engage with local communities as much as possible. It plays a key part in how we operate as a business, providing opportunities that make a real difference.

Our CSR Programme inspires our people to get behind the great work of local charity organisations and community projects, and we are proud that our staff are incredibly proactive in doing so.
Our three chosen local charities are Highland Hospice, Maggie’s Highlands and MND Scotland, which we have supported for a number of years. All of these causes are close to our heart, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg. With the coronavirus pandemic having posed enormous challenges for a number of local organisations, our team have stepped up their efforts to help out.
Maggie’s Highlands Summer Golf Day

On July 19, Orion took part in the Maggie’s Highlands Summer Golf Day at Castle Stuart. As lead sponsor, we contributed £46,700 to help. Maggie’s raise a record £80,000 towards the running of the amazing Maggies’ centre at Raigmore, which provides free cancer support and information to people living with cancer and their families. The amount raised came from a combination of entry fees and an auction, while a large sum was also raised from individuals offering to donate a hugely generous £2,400 each to cover the cost of running Maggie’s Highlands for a day.

Marie Curie – Nairn Ladies Golf Day

Marie Curie is another cancer charity that is very close to our hearts. We are delighted to continue our support of this popular golf day. It has raised a terrific amount over the years in aid of the charity which provides invaluable care and support through terminal illness. We were delighted to donate £5,000 to this hugely worthy cause.

Marie Curie – Clachnacuddin charity strip

As long term supporters of Clachnacuddin FC we were delighted to help out when the club said they wanted to launch a new third kit to help raise awareness for the incredible work Marie Curie do. As well as facilitating the delivery of a striking yellow kit, Orion looks forward to working on future fundraising initiatives with the club and charity.

RokzKool Community Kitchen

We have been working with Merkinch-based RokzKool Academy throughout the pandemic. Starting out in 2014 running music workshops for local children, children with Autism, refugee families, Action Duchennes and Sense Scotland, in 2020, the charity signed up to receive food from FareShare and Neighbourly. It used the food to provide breakfast and lunch for children and parents alongside music tuition, with any surplus delivered to families in need. RokzKool then began teaching cooking skills in collaboration with Tesco and Jamie Oliver Community Kitchen Course The pandemic has seen the charity losing its primary income stream, but it continued to operate, delivering food to local families by car. Now, using the Orion Community Bus, RokzKool is reaching many more people, expanding their free, volunteer- run service to include Women’s Aid and three homeless shelters. Working with Orion – and local supermarkets – the charity has been able to deliver emergency food donations to those is in need in the local community, with the Orion bus becoming a familiar sight going about its deliveries.
