Camanchd Association welcomes Orion Group sponsorship to Shinty

The Camanachd Association is delighted to announce the leading manpower supplier in Scotland, the Orion Group as title sponsor of shinty’s top league for seasons 2012 and 2013.

The Orion Group Premiership gets underway on Saturday 3rd March with the top ten shinty teams in the country competing to be the first to lift the new Orion Group Premiership Trophy. A nail biting finish to last year’s competition saw Newtonmore edge past Kyles Athletic to clinch the Scottish Hydro Premier Division on the last day of the season. This year promises to be equally thrilling, with Kinlochshiel and Bute joining the Premiership and the introduction of two ‘Orion Group Premiership Derby Days’ to coincide with bank holiday weekends.

Announcing the sponsorship at Orion Group’s Head Office in Inverness today were Camanachd Association Vice-President, Jim Barr, and Orion Group’s Head of Marketing Development, Scott Burns-Smith.

Scott Burns-Smith said: “Whilst Orion Group is a worldwide business our history is firmly in the Highlands. As a company we have a strong focus in working with the communities on various projects and commercial opportunities and we are pleased to offer our support to the Camanachd Association. 2012 is an exciting year for us with the Group celebrating its 25 year anniversary and we all look forward to the launch of the Orion Group Premiership in March.”

Jim Barr said: “Today marks a great day for shinty and we are delighted to welcome Orion Group as title sponsor of the Premiership for the next two years. Their investment represents a significant boost for the sport and will de used to help promote and develop shinty across the country, particularly at youth level. The Orion Group Premiership showcases shinty’s best teams so it is fitting that it is paired with such a prestigious and successful Scottish company.”

2012 sees Orion Group – a global leader in the provision of key staff to the energy sector – celebrate 25 years in the people business. The Group recently won two multi-million pound deals to the value of £20million per year with the Canadian-based energy company, Nexen Petroleum UK Ltd.
