Job Title - Technical Team Leader

Location - Greater Manchester

About the Role

Leading the support and elements of development for this part of the business you will initially be responsible for helping set up a support and change management capability using the Atlassian Jira product. This will initially be to support a new Smart Cities and Places platform built internally on AWS cloud with IOT sensors in the field using Zigbee and LoRaWAN communication protocols. You will then expand this capability to the existing systems that support a Building Management and energy business from CRM, ERP and technical BMS products and tools. You will matrix manage the Technical Development team as they will also be responsible for some other major project work.

A key part of your role will be helping to define best practice in support and development, introducing agile development where possible and using quality processes such as peer review and formulised testing and the development of regression test packs. You will be responsible for defect backlogs and delivery timelines for projects and managing the change process from development/fix into production. Your responsibilities will also include security alerting from SSE's SIEM, all related test reports, defect management, business interactions, risk management, test documentation and plan.


Educated to degree level, or a relevant equivalent qualification,.

The ability to stay calm under pressure, multi-task and be flexible in terms of workload items as well as embracing change, with a high degree of personal integrity and attention to detail.

Essential skills and experience:

- Significant previous team leading experience, managing Support or Development teams

- Previous experience as an Application Developer

- Good knowledge of Microsoft Office

- Ability to deliver to tight deadlines under pressure whilst remaining self-motivated

Demonstrate skills and experience in some of the following:

- Project Management / delivery experience

- Agile delivery methods

- Experience in introducing standards and processes

- Previous experience as a Web Developer or Full Stack Developer

- Previous experience as IT support to include network and servers

- Experience of Jira Service desk specifically Incident and Change management

- Experience of Cloud technology

- Supplier / partnership management experience

Previous Development experience:

- .NET - ASP.NET Forms, MVC, Web API, Core

- .NET - Windows applications and services

- C#, Java, SQL, JavaScript, jQuery, HTML, CSS

- Cloud computing, preferably AWS

- Microsoft SQL Server, IIS, Reporting Services, Power BI

- BI tool or analytics tools

Scripting experience:

- jQuery, React, Angular

- Node.js, Python, Javascript
