Orion Group are looking for a Sr. Regulatory & Environmental Advisor to join our client, a global energy company with operations in Asia, Africa, the Americas and Europe, based out of their Houston office.

Reporting to the GM - Health, Safety, Environment & Emergency Management, in direct support of our Clients' Deepwater Gulf of Mexico offshore asset exploration and development, the Sr Regulatory & Environmental Advisor - Deepwater HSE will provide leadership and expertise in the areas of Environmental and Regulatory Compliance (Health, Safety, Environment, Emergency Response, Process Safety Management, Regulatory compliance).

Travel will be required to international project offices on a frequent basis.

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide Environmental and Regulatory support for early stakeholder engagement in asset/basin planning (Explore) through to execution (Execute);
  • Provide support in the development and implementation of risk management for Environmental related risks specific to deepwater basin development;
  • Support the development and delivery of project planning activities including Environmental Impact Assessment, Rig Intake, Emergency Response planning/development, Oil Spill Response, Environment Plans, etc.;
  • Deliver and/or develop the Deepwater Exploration and Production Environmental Management System that aligns with the Clients' HSE Management System;
  • Incident management and investigation support;
  • Support the well delivery process from an Environmental and Regulatory perspective;
  • Establish and report on leading and lagging performance indicators;
  • Participate in process stewardship reviews with both Engineering & Construction and Drilling & Completions stakeholders;
  • Review and advise on the impact of existing, new, and pending regulations, corporate policies and divisional standards to the appropriate stakeholders;
  • Provide direction for engagement of applicable regulatory authorities;
  • Manage Environmental and Regulatory service contracts;
  • Support vessel audits, inspection and assurance activities.

Education & Experience

  • Experience in Environmental/Regulatory positions supporting Drilling & Completions and/or Engineering & Construction work in offshore basins, specifically deepwater Americas;
  • University degree in the physical or natural sciences, engineering, or equivalent discipline;
  • Professional designation would be an asset (P. Eng, P. Ag, P. Bio);
  • Experience as a Manager for exploration and drilling projects;
  • Extensive experience in developing and implementing project management;
  • Outstanding communication skills both written and verbal. Ability to clearly communicate the business vision. Extremely comfortable in standup presentations to both senior management and various public audiences;
  • Experience with the development and implementation of procedures, control and reporting systems;
  • A track record of developing strong external networks with regulatory bodies, partners, and stakeholder organizations and ensuring the company's position is fully represented;
  • Strong leadership skills, coupled with the ability to think strategically and creatively to establish, as well as emulate the best practices.

This is a contract opportunity with anticipated 12 month duration initially.
