Site Electrical Engineer

Department Technical

Purpose of Job To contribute to the safe operation of the Stublach electrical and gas plant assets to ensure the protection of personnel and the environment.

To operate, maintain and define improvements to the electrical assets on site to ensure their reliability and availability.

To provide Electrical technical expertise support related to Operations & Maintenance activities.

Acceptance of Electrical assets from the Project Team.

Provide direction and leadership in areas of Electrical Engineering to staff in the Operations, Maintenance and Engineering departments, communicating on business and departmental objectives to ensure that staff work productively with a clear purpose to meet their objectives. Coach, mentor and develop staff to improve their skills, promoting a culture of collaboration and an environment where all staff are empowered to innovate.

Key activities/ accountabilities

SAFETY, HEALTH & ENVIRONMENT

1. Carry out assigned tasks and duties in a safe manner, in accordance with instructions and to comply with safety rules, procedures, regulations and codes of practice.

2. Report all events (personal injuries, equipment damage, environmental and security) to your Line Manager and regularly raise proactive observations to help reduce the risk of an unsafe situation occurring.

3. Drive improvements in Process Safety across the site.

ELECTRICAL EXPERTISE & ASSET MANAGEMENT

1. Prepare and be responsible for switching schedules and carry out switching routines for the Stublach site. Take ownership for the issuing and receiving of safety documents relating to switching activities.

2. Liaise with Scottish Power and arrange switching operations at the 132 KV Lostock Sub-Station, understanding their electrical distribution maintenance activities and the implications for the Stublach site.

3. Monitor and arrange the electrical training for the Gas Plant Technicians.

4. Support to the Operations & Maintenance Teams in areas of Electrical Engineering: Electrical maintenance contracts specification, contractor interfacing and performance monitoring. Prepare technical documentation for electrical systems requisitions and perform contractor technical evaluations.

5. Provide Electrical expertise to the Stublach site. In conjunction with the Operations & Maintenance Teams, lead on defining the maintenance requirement of electrical equipment on site, considering cost criticality and safety to ensure operational compliance and efficiencies are maintained. Ensure preventative maintenance routines are carried out to agreed schedules.

6. Act as single point of contact for site modifications (MoC) involving Electrical Systems and be Technical Safety Assessment leader when required.

7. Support the Gas Plant team for the project phase 2 handover, with a specific focus on electrical systems and handover acceptance criteria.

8. Deliver operational based electrical improvements that minimise downtime / maximise plant availability and gas plant reliability.

9. Define outage plans for electrical systems, taking responsibility for the any electrical based outage works.

10. Review and approve RAMS for electrical based maintenance work.

11. Monitor, oversee and audit electrical contractors carrying out electrical based maintenance work.

12. Act as the key point of contact for any electrical systems issues identified by the Shift Operations Team that could impact on gas plant availability and reliability.

13. Ensure electrical documentation is kept up to date and accurate.

ADDITIONAL MAINTENANCE

1. Responsible for Cathodic protection - Follow maintenance / monitoring plan, liaise with contractors (expertise and maintenance). Manage any remedial work.

2. Responsible for ATEX - Manage all ATEX inspection activities, ATEX compliance and ATEX equipment register. Manage any remedial work.

3. Responsible for the site UPS Systems - Manage the maintenance & testing of site UPS systems.

4. Responsible for site Earthing and Lightning Protection Systems - Manage the maintenance and system testing.

GENERAL

  • Ensure that all procedures are complied with and all actions are auditable while also maintaining the highest personal, professional and ethical standards.
  • Adhere to internal Storengy and Engie policies and procedures: Instructions, Technical Notes, and Handbook and adhere to external regulations: Employment Law, local requirements.
  • Implement the requirements of the Stublach Management System associated with documentation control for the Maintenance Team.

Experience/ Skills

  • Experience of operating and maintaining electrical systems up to 132kV.
  • Ideally a minimum 5 years experience in operations/maintenance of processing plants/equipment, preferably within the oil and gas industry.
  • Ability to deal with complex and sometimes ambiguous/conflicting data.
  • Excellent problem solving skills particularly for technical problems and ability to deliver solutions.
  • Ability to manage a varied workload with conflicting priorities.
  • Keeps focus on effective and timely delivery.
  • Communicates with both internal and external parties to ensure smooth and safe functioning of activities.
  • Identifies best practice (internally and externally) to deliver continuous improvement actions.
  • Seeks regular feedback from all sources in order to drive through safety and operational improvements.
  • Adopts a consistent approach, checks the quality of work and meets deadlines
  • Flexibility and resilience to overcome setbacks/obstacles.
