This is an exciting contract role with an operator based in Vietnam. Opportunities on both a Semi Sub and Jack up rig for a 4 month contract.

Role Purpose

  1. To provide oversight of all data acquisition that impacts Sub Surface interpretation of the geological setting within and adjacent to the Blocks in which drilling operations are to occur.
  2. To provide oversight of all formation evaluation service providers to ensure all equipment, services and personnel meet contract requirements and are executed in the safest and most efficient manner as possible.
  3. To provide QA/QC review of all wellsite generated, Sub Surface relevant data and ensure its timely transfer to the Office.
  4. To provide geoscience data interpretation and advice to the rig based drilling and Third Party personnel as required

Key Accountabilities/Essential Functions

  • Specific responsibilities of the Wellsite Geologist:
    • Prepare detailed descriptions of each cuttings sample collected.
    • Prepare detailed descriptions of all core chips and sidewall cores recovered from the well.
    • Describe and evaluate all hydrocarbon indications recorded during drilling operations
    • Prepare a daily geological report that summarises: drilling, LWD, wireline, coring, mudlogging operations, lithostratigraphy of drilled section, gas characterisation of drilled section, pore pressure prediction and monitoring trends.
    • Maintain detailed operations diary of each wireline suite and MWD/LWD run.
    • Continuously populate and maintain wellsite geological database.
    • Prepare lithlog daily, capturing all relevant geological data and events for graphical presentation.
    • Prepare detailed section operations summary as well progresses.
    • Maintain detailed and accurate days versus depth plot as well progresses
    • Maintain accurate summary of well survey records and bit data.
    • Distribute all QA/QC'd geoscience related data and reports as per required Company schedule ensuring all file naming protocols are met.
    • Provide interpretation of geoscience data as required and ensure Company Drilling Supervisor is appraised of all relevant data and information that may have an impact on drilling operations or logistics planning.
  • Specific oversight of Mud Logging service provider.
    • Unit readiness audit
    • Critical consumables, spare equipment and parts inventory oversight
    • Oversight of all equipment specifications and calibrations
    • QA/QC of all data generated during execution of the mudlogging service.
    • Oversight of sample preparation, packing and shipping.
    • Ensure digital data files consistently formatted and named to meet Company's requirements
    • Review and proof read draft Mudlogging Final Well Report.
  • Specific oversight of LWD service provider
    • Oversight of all equipment specifications and calibrations.
    • QA/QC of all LWD data generated including documenting and catalogue instances of poor data quality and acquisition parameters for both real time and recorded data.
    • Close monitoring of real time data for offset well correlation.
    • Document operating efficiency.
    • Ensure digital data files are consistently formatted and named to meet Company's requirements.
  • Specific oversight of Wireline service provider
    • Oversight of all equipment specifications and calibrations.
    • QA/QC of all Wireline data generated including documenting and catalogue instances of poor data quality and acquisition parameters for required logs.
    • Close monitoring of wireline data for offset well correlation.
    • Witness all data acquisition operations and document operating efficiency.
    • Advising Wireline service provider on repeat sections and preferred action when equipment/console flags or data quality issues arise.
    • Ensure digital data files are consistently formatted and named to meet Company's requirements.
  • Monitor Coring Operations
    • Discuss coring objectives and expected lithology of planned core interval with coring contractor and Company's Drilling Supervisor with emphasis on potential issues that may impact core recovery.
    • Pick core points with guidance of and close collaboration with the Operations Geologist.
    • Oversight of core recovery and stabilisation.
    • Attend to marking of the recovered core.
    • Witness acquisition of core gamma ray log.
    • Describe core chip samples.
    • Oversight of core packaging for shipment to shore based laboratory.
