We are seeking a Senior Telecoms/Network Engineer for our Oil & Gas Operator client.

Based within the data networks teams and involves daily support for the company network infrastructure and includes ongoing project work depending on business requirements.

Support tasks include day to day monitoring and troubleshooting on the companies LAN/WAN infrastructure across UK wide network on and offshore including the following sites; Aberdeen Offices, UK & International remote sites, St Fergus Gas Terminal and various Offshore platforms.

Ideally you will live locally to Aberdeen as a large proportion of the work is in the offices.

Ensure all existing onshore and offshore communication systems are fit for purpose and working as designed.
Plan, design and manage the introduction of new facilities and changes to existing facilities within budget and timescale criteria defined by department and offshore management.
Control costs whilst improving efficiency and availability on the existing communications network.
Ensure vendors implement work regarding modifications and installation of new equipment within budget and timescales.
Evaluate technical specifications of proposed systems to ensure compliance with existing strategy and Group specifications and recommendations to determine impact on existing infrastructure.
Maintain the integrity of the COMPANY voice systems following security best practices, Group Specifications and recommendations.
Participate actively in the continued evolution of the communication strategy ensuring that the communications network is fit for purpose.
Negotiate with and management of vendors with the assistance of purchasing and contracts departments as appropriate to ensure quality of and cost effective supply of communication equipment and services.
Carry out research on developments as defined by both line management and as suggested by the job-holder making appropriate and cost effective recommendations for the use of developing technology.
Approve changes to existing facilities in a timely and efficient manner.
Provide procedures and training to ensure new and existing facilities require less assistance for resolving problems from the job-holder.
Provide an initial response to any communications problem out of hours on a rota basis so the operational service to all company locations is restored in a timely and efficient manner.
Ensure that all equipment is fitted and maintained to the standards necessary for the safety of all personnel included offshore equipment.
Effectively manage contracts under job holders responsibility as per Company rules and guidelines.
Ensure and manage the mobilisation of all temporary communications requirements for offshore vessels, rigs, flotels and temporary construction facilities working with vendors and other members of the IS department in order to meet the Business requirements.
Occasional trips offshore.
On Call Duty cover.

Honours degree in electronic, electrical or communication engineering.
Chartered Engineer or equivalent.
Appropriate post graduate experience in voice and data communications.
Project management skills involved in co-ordinating a number of simultaneous projects.
In depth knowledge of PBX's (IP and Analogue) and main communication systems such as Radio, Terrestrial, Satellite and Optical fibre.
In-depth knowledge of various communication protocols such as TCP/IP, MPLS, VPN's, IPSec, QoS, TDM and Wireless Technologies.
Knowledge of the upstream oil and gas industry and an understanding of its working practices relating to telecommunications.
Current suite of industry standard offshore certification (BOSIET, medical, etc.)
