Orion Group are looking for a Senior Software Engineer for our Multinational Medical Devices client based in the North Scotland area on a permanent basis.


Job Purpose
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Software Engineer specialising in embedded , realtime applications to join our strong team of experts. You will provide technical leadership, be a subject matter expert, mentor and coach others as well as contributing to the overall strategy.

You will be operating as a Senior Software Engineer on the development of blood glucose monitoring systems. The role involves a mix of technical project management and hands on design in projects spanning the full product lifecycle from concept to post launch support. This role would be an ideal opportunity for individuals with ambitions to move into Engineering Management but still wish to have hands on engineering experience.

Main Responsibilities of the role

  • Technical project management, Interfacing and managing external design & manufacturing partners
  • Development of all software requirements specifications
  • Review & signoff of 3rd party software vendor activities
  • Liaison with internal stakeholder groups
  • Problem solving and tracking of issues
  • Responsible for tracking and reporting schedule and engineering activities of suppliers to Engineering manager
  • Release of product firmware to manufacture

Desired Experience and Background of the successful candidate

  • Ideally you will have a Bsc Hons Software Engineering or equivalent and have a background in embedded firmware development
  • Experience within a highly regulated environment and ideally within Medical Devices desirable but not essential
  • Experience of developing software under formal development processes
  • Experience of MSP 430 & STM-8 is desirable
  • Experience of developing IoT applications desirable
  • Microcontroller based design experience essential
  • Knowledge of the application of AI based solutions advantageous
  • Experience of development using C, C++ for safety critical applications desirable
  • You will have diversity of thought teamed with a strong customer focus and it goes without saying that you will have a proactive approach to issue identification and problem resolution as well as being resilient and able to work well under pressure
